Welcome to Zybez RuneScape Help, a help site for the Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, RuneScape. RuneScape is a game with monsters to kill, quests to complete, and treasure to win. Along with all of its great features you will be able to play RuneScape alongside thousands of other people from around the world, some of which could be your own friends. RuneScape is a great game to satisfy your competitive side, and best of all it is free to try for as long as you wish!
As was just mentioned, RuneScape can be played for free, for as long as you want. However this comes with a number of limitations. If you are a "Free Player" you will not be able to take full advantage of the features of the game. Free players will be limited to only a small portion of the RuneScape World, fifteen out of the twenty-one skills, and a small handful of quests and very few updates.
Want more? Do you want to really experience RuneScape? Well then, RuneScape Members is for you. For only about $5.00 USD a month you can be a full RuneScape Member. RuneScape Members get access to all of the games features and map areas. Not only do they get more features, they get game updates almost every week! This means you can never be bored of the game. We do not recommend that you purchase this membership right away. You should try the game out for a while and make the decision after you have decided that you enjoy the game. Also, read the Starting Members guide.
RuneScape is available in both French and German versions. The German version was released on 14th February 2008, and was only chosen players could access it at first. However, it later became available to everyone. The French version was released on 11th December 2008 and was immediately available to the public. The game is exactly the same in both versions, only the words have changed. Either is accessible by clicking the flags under the RuneScape logo on the main page.
So you have decided to try out the game. To get started, you will need to create an account.
Here are the steps you will need to follow in order to create an account. It is pretty straight forward, but here is a quick run-through if you are having trouble.
- Go to the RuneScape home page by clicking on the RuneScape image above and click on the "Create A Free Account (New User)" button.
- Enter your date of birth, country residence, and then click "Submit"
- Decide what you would like your username to be and then press "Check Availability". Make sure that it doesn't go past the 12 character limit.
- If your desired username is available you will be brought to the RuneScape "Terms and Conditions". If your desired username is not available you will have to select another one.
- Take a moment to skim over the terms and then press "I Agree" at the bottom of the page.
- You should now be at the "Choose A Password" screen which is the last step in registering. Make sure you choose a password that would be very hard for another person to guess. Enter in your desired password into the two areas, agree to the terms and conditions once more, then press the "Create Account Button".
You are now done creating your account. Be sure to remember your password and keep it in a safe place if possible.
Logging into the game is just a simple as making an account. Here are the basic steps.
- Click the 'Free Users - Click Here To Play' button on the RuneScape home page.
- You'll automatically be taken to the log in menu. Choose either 'Standard detail' or 'High detail' to change the graphic display. You can always click 'Graphic Options' for more selections on this. The 'Audio Options' can be adjusted if you would like to change the volume of the sounds and music.
- Choose which world you would like to play on by clicking on 'World Select'. A menu will pop up with world numbers, the player number in each world, the theme of the world, and whether or not lootshare, quickchat, or PvP applies in that world. The gold and silver stars represent members and free to play worlds, respectively. Since you're just starting off, log into a silver star world that doesn't support PvP (PvP is represented by a check mark under the skull image on the world select menu).
- Once you select a world you will be taken to the game window. If this is your first time playing you may be prompted with 'Do you want to install and run RuneScape?'. Select 'Always trust content from Jagex Ltd.' and then click 'Yes', after doing this you should never get that pop-up again.
- Wait for the game to load and then select 'Log In (Existing User)'.
- Enter in your RuneScape username and password. Click 'Login' to enter the game.
If this is your first time playing, you will be asked to design your character and then complete a 20 minute tutorial on the game. There is no way to skip this tutorial so be patient while you take the tutorial to get into the main RuneScape world.
After you have tried the free version of RuneScape, you may want to become a member in order to take advantage of the wide range of features that the RuneScape world has to offer. For an overview of these features, visit the 'Benefits for Members' page on the RuneScape website.
If you decide to subscribe to RuneScape Members, you will need to go through the sign up process. To begin you will need to get into the subscription section of your RuneScape account. To do this, go to the RuneScape main page and click on 'Subscribe' under the secure services heading. After logging in, you will be taken to your secure menu where you will able to manage your membership status.
When subscribing to members you will be asked which country you live in. Depending on the country you live in, you will be provided with a number of payment options. In general, the payment options are the same for every country, however some forms of payment are limited to specific areas. Here are some of the more popular methods:
- Credit/Debit Card - One of the fastest and cheapest ways to subscribe.
- PayPal - A free service to make fast online payments.
- Pay by Cash (thru-mail) - No Credit Card? No problem! Subscribe by sending money through the mail.
- Pay-By-Phone - Another quick way to may your payment, however it is only available in a few countries.

Once your payment has been received, you will automatically be given your member status.
This section will deal with the general game play of RuneScape. There are so many features within the RuneScape game, so only the basic aspects of the game will be covered here.
Most players in RuneScape judge you RuneScape character by how high its skills are. You can be train a specific skill through performing a variety of tasks that give you experience points. When you reach certain amounts of experience points in a certain skill, your level in the skill will increase. You will start of at level 1 in most skills; however the maximum is level 99 for each one.
Currently there are 24 skills in the game of RuneScape. They are: Agility, Attack, Cooking, Construction, Crafting, Defence, Farming, Firemaking, Fishing, Fletching, Herblore, Hitpoints, Hunter, Magic, Mining, Prayer, Ranged, Runecrafting, Slayer, Smithing, Strength, Summoning, Thieving and Woodcutting.
These skills: Agility, Construction, Farming, Fletching, Herblore, Hunter, Slayer, Summoning and Thieving skills are only for paying members.

Quests are in game tasks that are given to you by certain in game characters. Some tasks are quite simple; however some prove to be very challenging. In some cases you will have to defeat strong monsters while in other situations just a simple task is asked of you.
The completion of these quests will result in some sort of reward for your character. Sometimes you will be rewarded with skill experience, with new abilities or sometimes even access to new areas of the RuneScape World. All quests will reward you with a few quest points, which will keep increasing every time you complete a quest. Having a higher number of quest points may allow you to start harder and more exciting quests.

There are many opportunities to partake in combat in RuneScape. All over the world there are monsters to fight and when you defeat them, you may be left with some treasure. To attack someone or something simply right click on your target and select attack. If you want to fight other players, head up north to the wilderness. Beware that the further you go into the wilderness the more dangerous it become since stronger players will be able to attack you. Members can take advantage of the Duel Arena and Castle Wars arenas if they want to fight other players as well. When fighting whether it be with Melee (Swords, etc..), Magic or Ranged, you have a chance of causing damage to your opponent. If you do some damage your opponent will loose some health and when all of their health is lost, they will die. Remember this could also happen to you so be aware. To restore your health you should eat food.
When you die, you will be immediately sent to Lumbridge, which is the town where you first started out. You will keep all of your skill levels however you will lose most of the items you are carrying. If you have attacked a player recently you, which means you have a skull above your head, you will lose all of your items. If you haven't attacked another player recently you will keep 3 of your best items.
The game is multiplayer which means you will meet many other people in the world who you can communicate and trade with. Make new friends and go adventuring together to stand a better chance against the stronger monsters. Perhaps you want to make your money trading valuable goods with others. Or if you like taking risks, you can choose to fight with like-minded people to try and steal their treasure.
Where would you be without one of RuneScape's most knowledgeable guides? When you are transfered from Tutorial Island, into Lumbridge, it opens up a brand new door for you and your character. There are many sightings out there waiting to be discovered, but first, you need to learn how to make use of your different skills, and learn some advice before embarking on your RuneScape journey. The interface to RuneScape may be confusing to most new gamers, however after using it for several hours you'll be an expert. This section will give you information on the various parts of the RuneScape window. The image below is a scaled down picture of the game's interface. If you need help with the interface, just click on the part you require assistance with and a wide range of information will be displayed.

Combat Controls Menu |
F1 | This menu, marked by the two swords, is used to control the way you act in combat. You can check your combat total and decide if you want to auto-retaliate to attacks or not. For the most part you will use this menu to change your attack styles, however you can also use it to see what weapon you are holding and to take advantage of the 'Auto-Cast' feature when performing magic. |

F2 | If you enjoy leveling your character up, you will be spending a lot of time in this menu. The statistics menu will tell you what your current level in each skill is and your skill total. |
Quests Menu |
F3 | The quest menu is a complete list of all the quests in RuneScape. If you haven't completed a certain quest it will show up in red. If you have started a quest but you have not finished it, the name will appear in yellow. Every quest that you have completed will show up in green. You can see your total quest points in this menu. |
Achievements Diary Menu |
F8 | The achievements diary menu is a complete list of all the diaries in RuneScape. If you haven't completed a certain diary it will show up in red. If you have started a diary but you have not finished it, the name will appear in yellow. Every diary that you have completed will show up in green. |
Inventory Menu |
F4 | This menu is yet another very useful area. When viewed, this section will show all of the items that are currently in your handbag. From this menu you can use the items for various tasks throughout the game. |
Equipment Menu |
F5 | This section shows all the equipment that you are currently using. To equip an item right click on it in the Inventory Menu. Remember that not all items in Runescape can be equipped. The equipment menu has a button to 'Show Equipment Stats', which opens up a screen that shows your character, the equipment on the character, and the stats of the equipment you have on your character. In addition there is a button which will show what items you will lose if you die. Various circumstances affect what you will lose and the screen will reflect this (Picture) |
Prayer Menu |
F6 | The prayer menu gives you access to your prayers. For more information, visit the Prayer Guide. |
Magic Menu |
F7 | The magic menu gives you access to your magic spells. For more information, visit the Magic Guide. |
Objectives |
- | The objectives menu shows you the status of an objective you're achieving. The objectives can be a skill, quest, or an achievement diary task. To make an objective, either click 'Random Objectives', which shows random objectives you can achieve, or right click on a skill, quest, or an achievement dairy task. If you put a skill as your objective, you can type in what level you want to achieve and a percentage (%) bar will show your progress from the beginning to end of your goal. |
Friends Menu |
F8 | The friends menu allows you to view if other players are online and allows you to communicate with them. To add a friend click on the 'Add Friend' button, enter their name and press enter. To send a private message to a friend, simply click on their name, type the message and then press enter. |
Ignored Users |
- | This list works the same as the Friends List in terms of managing people on the list. The difference is that you will not receive any messages sent by anybody on this list. Adding somebody to the ignore list means you will appear offline to them and they will not be able to message you. |
Clan Chat Menu |
- | The clan chat menu allows you to speak with others members of your clan whilst online. To join a clan chat, click on 'Join Chat' and then enter the username of the clan's chat host (often a clan leader). To speak in a clan chat you must always put '/' before your sentence, otherwise it will be said in public. You will leave a clan chat when you log out, of if you click 'Leave Chat', players can also turn on LootShare for a short period of time on certain servers by clicking the money bag on the chat menu. LootShare gives players in a clan chat, who are ranked and when within 16 squares of one another, a chance of receiving a drop that you have collectively earned from killing monsters together. As long as a player meets the requirements they don't even have to deal any damage to receive a drop. Every time a player does not receive a drop their chance of getting a drop improves. The owner or higher enough ranked member of a clan chat can also toggle CoinShare on and off. Coinshare performs the same chance based drop system for all players, but for expensive drops (like Dragon items) the items are converted into their lowest market price and put as money on the floor. Each player can pick up an even share of the money earned. On the initial clan chat menu, players can also create their own chat. You must choose a name for it without using any punctuation, set what ranks can enter the channel, what ranks can talk on it, who can kick other players on it and who can receive items from LootShare. On the right hand side there will also be your friends list, by right clicking on 'Not in clan' one can attribute ranks to friends and invite players to your clan. |

Emotes |
- | This menu is for choosing your emotes. Emotes are an animation your character will make when clicking on the emote you want. The emotes are displayed as pictures, but if you hover your mouse over the picture it will tell you what it is. You can do things like 'Clap' and 'Blow Kiss' or even 'Dance'. |
Music Menu |
- | This menu gives you control over the music you hear whilst playing Runescape. It consists of a large list of music as well as a number of buttons. Each song comes from a different part of the RuneScape world. You have to travel to the different areas of Runescape to unlock the different area songs. If a song is in green, it has been unlocked and you have the ability to play it. If the music player is set to auto, the music that is played will be the music that is designated to the area you are in and will continue to change as you move around the Runescape world. If you would prefer to choose what you listen to, use the manual option and select a song from the list. The other button is the 'Loop' button which makes the song you are listening to repeat itself. If this option is not selected, the music will stop until a new song is selected. |

Advisor |
- | The Advisor menu icon is basically a help center for any player. If you're confused over a skill, quest, or any other tab of RuneScape, the Advisor most likely can help you. It gives you tips and certain information. |

- | This shows your current amount of hitpoints. |

- | This shows your current amount of run energy. If you click on the icon you can turn your run on or off; the glowing yellow icon indicates that your run is on). |

- | This shows your current amount of summoning points and when a familiar or pet is summoned, the summoning menu shows you the status of your current familiar or pet. |
World Map |
- | Clicking on this icon will open the World Map, which will show you your location in the world of RuneScape. |
This area is where most menu content is displayed. It can be interacted with by using right and left clicks. Descriptions of the different menus are listed below.
The ribbon at the top of the RuneScape window allows you to access certain features. The first option (main menu) requires you to be logged out before you can click it. You can also search the RuneScape Knowledge Base, and the results are displayed in a new window. You can also access the Jagex homepage, also in a new window.
The mini map is located in the top right hand corner of the screen. It consists of a small map of your current location as well as a compass. These features can be extremely useful when trying to navigate your way around RuneScape. On this map, items of interest are shown in the following ways.
- Objects are shown as red dots.
- Monsters and game-characters are shown as yellow dots.
- Other nearby players are shown as white dots.
- People on your friends list are shown as green dots.
- People wearing the same team cape as you are shown as blue dots.
- People in your Clan Chat will appear as purple dots.
- Fixed location objects such as trees, fences and rocks each have their own specific graphic to make navigating clearer.
Apart from providing an overhead view of the immediate world around you, the mini map can also help you move around. Instead of using the main screen to move your character, click on the location you would like to travel to on the mini map and a red flag will appear. You character will then take the fastest route to the location of this flag.
This is the biggest part of the RuneScape window where you will be spending most of your time. Here you can view your character, other players, as well as the RuneScape landscape. There are many features built into this window, that you will come accustomed too.
The first main feature is moving around. Moving your character is simple. Simply click where you want to move to and your character will walk along the quickest path to that location. You can also move around by using your Mini Map and you can run by using your Player Controls menu through right clicking.
This area is where most chat between players is displayed. Use extra interaction options on other players by using right on left clicks on the names that appear in the chat buffer. The chat buffer holds up to 100 lines of text before the line is erased for good. The option to split private chat from public chat will hide private chat from the public chat window and display it in your main screen, which holds 5 lines of private chat before the oldest line is removed or its position in the public chat goes beyond the 100th line. You can recover private chat that has left the main screen but has not had the chance to be cleared from the buffer by unchecking split private chat.
You can also view what other players are saying on the main window. If a player types a public message, it will be displayed above his or her head. It is possible to disable this with the Public Chat Toggle button. For more information on chatting, see the Chat Box section. This is most of the information on the main window. If you want to find out more, read on.
Sometimes, you will have to interact with the game to a further extent than simply walking around. To interact with another person, monster or object, right click on your target. This will bring up a list of the actions you can perform. Some common actions are "Trade" which allows you to trade with other people, "Follow" which allows you to follow another player and "Talk to" which allows you to talk to computer controlled persons.
Trading with other players is limited however, and players are restricted to only trade one another items within 3000gp value of their Grand Exchange value. A player must receive an item 3000gp more or less in value of the item they are giving. The limit can be lessened slightly by players via earning quest points, the more quest points a player has the more leeway a player can trade items with. The amount of quest points and their trading margins are listed approximately below (note that these change every time a new quest is introduced).

Players trading with a different number of quest points always use the player with the lowest amount of quest points' limit, so a player with 270 or more is always limited to a 5000gp margin if the other player has less than 10 quest points. Sometimes the grand exchange is a better method for earning a profit, as prices there can differ by a margin of usually 5%, see information further down in the guide for details.
Ever since the beginning of RuneScape, Jagex has created emotes. Emotes are simple animations you can do to show certain feelings. It ranges from a dance, to a raspberry, to the skillcape emote. Some players find them amusing and others find them useless. However, there a lot of emotes and some of them don't come free. Here is a list of all the emotes on RuneScape:

Due to the trade limit, players complained that they couldn't let their friends borrow items. To remedy this Jagex released a new feature that allowed you lend items to other players for an extended period of time. Lending items out is safe to do and has no loop-holes to abuse. Items are kept safe by disallowing players to trade, drop, or sell the item away. It also has a feature where if you die with the lended item in your posession, it will automatically be kept on death.
To lend an item out you must right click a player and select the trade option. In your trade window you should notice two boxes below the accept and decline button, like the one displayed below. Drag the item you wish to lend inside that box and a button will appear below. If you right click the button below the lending box you can adjust how long you want the item to be lent out for (max of 24 hours). The until logout button means that the item will be returned to you as soon as you log out. To get an item back you have to speak to a banker.
You can also lend out an item for money. The limit of money depends on who has the lowest amount of quest points and how what their money limit is. Lending it out for money is nearly the same thing as making a normal trade. A player just has to place money inside the trade window (with the loaned item there too) and hit the accept button.
The items you can lend out are limited to weapons and armour only. The weapons and armour you can lend out are also limited to a certain type. A list of possible items to lend out can be found below.

You should also note that you can't take these items into Barbarian Assault, Duel Arena/Tournament, Chamber of Koschei the Deathless, beneath Rellekka, and Tears of Guthix.
The assist system was a feature added to the game primarily to be a safer alternative to players giving assistance through trading. The system allows you to temporarily acquire certain skill levels from another player, the catch being that, whilst you can make the items that you would be able to if you were them, the person giving the assistance gains the experience for it. The skills that can currently be used with assistance are: Runecrafting, Crafting, Fletching, Construction, Farming, Magic, Smithing, Cooking and Herblore.
There are, however, some restrictions to what you can do with the other player's levels. You cannot make anything untradeable or anything Quest/Achievement Diary related and there are certain things that cannot be made (for a list see the Restrictions section). Also, the person doing the assisting cannot move or perform any actions whilst they're helping you and doing so will cancel the assist.
With the introduction of the assist system comes a new setting which is much like the private chat and trade settings (Picture). It, like private chat, has 3 options - On, Friends and Off - which control whether you are available to request assistance from and who may request it from you.
If you want to request assistance from someone you must have your Assist setting to On or Friends or else the Req. Assist option will not show up when you right click on the player. Once you have Assist on, you can right click a player and choose the Req. Assist option which will, providing they accept, initiate the assist system (Picture). Once you are being assisted you will see an icon (Picture) in the bottom right of the RuneScape window, whilst this icon is present you may use the other person's skills (provided they are assist skills) freely and you will keep whatever you make. Whilst you are being assisted you must stay within 20 squares of the person who is assisting you or else you are deemed to be too far away and the session closes.
If someone is requesting assistance from you, a notice will appear - much like a trade notice - that says Name is requesting your assistance. Clicking on it once or right clicking and choosing accept will bring up the Assist System XP Display.
You cannot move whilst you are assisting someone so the XP Display will stay up the whole time and count how much XP you have earnt so far. You can end the assist at any time by moving, performing an action or by clicking the X in the top right of the XP Display.
By assisting someone you can only earn a maximum of 30k experience per 24 hours and whilst you're assisting you cannot move or perform actions of any kind. Whilst you are being assisted, you must stay within 20 squares of the person assisting you (or else the assist ends) and you cannot make non-tradeable items, quest items, achievement diary items or minigame related items. Also, you cannot use other player's skills to gain access to guilds or to get further in quests relying on those skills and members cannot assist non-members in P2P skills. There are also certain restrictions on each skill:

A: To quote JaGeX, 'This is because the system is designed to help players work with resources they already have, not to help them gather those resources...' The Assist system is meant to be used to assist other players, not give them an unfair advantage.

Whenever you die in Runescape a gravestone appears on the spot you died. These gravestones protect any items you dropped when you died for a certain amount of time, after which they break and disappear. After you die, if you can make it back to the place you died before the gravestone disappears you can retrieve your dropped items. Note that gravestones only appear when you actually have items to protect and don't apply to people with three or less items in their inventory.
However,there are ways to extend how long your gravestone lasts. Different types of gravestones each have a different base time (see below). Also, when your gravestone is close to breaking, other players can repair it by right-clicking on the gravestone and selecting the "repair" option. Repairing a gravestone uses up a few prayer points. As well as repairing it, if a player has a prayer level of 70 or over they can bless your gravestone. This causes it to last much longer, up to an hour, but also drains more of the player's prayer points, although their prayer points will never drop below 10, just in case. The more prayer points a player has available to bless a gravestone, the longer it will last.
If you manage to make it back to your gravestone in time you can claim back your lost items by right-clicking your gravestone and choosing the "demolish" option. This reveals your items so you can pick them up, and only you can do this to your gravestone. When you come across a gravestone, you may also read it's inscription describing who died and how long ago in different ways depending on the type of gravestone, one can be see here. After an update, your gravestone will not break immediately if you log out or lose connection, however, the timer does not stop. You only have as much time as your on-screen timer reads before your grave is gone along with any items you lost.
There are some circumstances in which a gravestone will not appear to protect your items. These are often described as 'dangerous' areas, and there is normally a in-game warning in these areas. If you die in a special area - such as while fighting Bork in the Chaos Tunnels, your gravestone appears nearby, in this instance, at the entrance to Bork's lair.
To upgrade your gravestone, first you must have completed The Restless Ghost. Then you can visit Father Aereck in Lumbridge church and buy a new gravestone. Father Aereck will allow you to buy all of the non-members gravestones, but members can buy a wider variety of gravestones by visiting Blasidar in Keldagrim if they've completed The Giant Dwarf. Blasidar can be found in his house to the east of the Consortium Palace.

On June 09th, 2009, Jagex released the Rest system. The system was created to replenish your stamina (energy for running). You can now sit down and rest anywhere by right-clicking on the run button, which will recharge your run energy (as well as Hitpoints) much faster.
Across the lands of Gielinor, there are musicians, which are located around various places, and they provide even faster recharging rates, to replenish your run energy and Hitpoints.

Along with most games, RuneScape has its own set of rules. They are not put there to annoy you, but to ensure that everyone's playing experience is enjoyable. Infractions of these rules may result in suspension or other consequences.
Here are the fifteen basic RuneScape rules.

To enforce the 15 rules of the game there are official moderators throughout the game. Their job is to keep the game safe and free of all scamming and other intolerable behavior. The two types of moderators are: Jagex Staff and Player Moderators. Jagex staff are employees of Jagex Ltd. and have the ability to permanent ban, mute and temporally disable all accounts.
A player moderator, usually called pmod or player moderator, is a regular player of RuneScape who has the ability to send priority abuse reports and if the abusive player is being particularly bad, the player mod has the ability to mute the player temporarily. Jagex does check all reports that player moderators send in to make sure player moderators are not abusing their powers. You will know when someone is a moderator when they speak because a small crown will appear next to their names.

If you want to become a Player moderator, the key is patience. How Jagex chooses player moderators is rather obscure. They say on the official site that they do not pick those who ask customer support to become one. The only real hints they give on who they pick are people who are nice honest players, who report abuse they see, using the report abuse button - but not abusing the report abuse button in the process.
If you are invited by Jagex to become a player moderator, you will have a message in your message center (on RuneScape.com). Jagex will never email you or ask you in game to become a player moderator.
The other moderators are the RuneScape players themselves. You! If you see a suspicious act taking place click the report abuse button and Jagex will be notified. Since moderators will not always be there it is important that you take this feature seriously.

There are many dangerous areas in the game where it is easy to die. All of these areas have warning screens to let less experienced players be aware that the area they are about to enter has certain dangers.
More experienced players got annoyed with these warnings through so Jagex introduced a way for experienced players to turn these warnings off but still allow the newer players to be warned when they enter these areas. You will need to get the warning 3-5 times before you can turn it off though.
There are some areas however that even experienced players may not want to have warnings turned off for, examples are the warnings for Lumbridge Swamp or the warning as you enter the Mole Lair. There is a NPC in Lumbridge called the Doomsayer who will re-enable any warnings you had turned off, but want turned back on.

So what is the Grand Exchange? It is a building located to the north of Varrock's western bank, where quick and easy trades can be carried out with other players. The advantages of the grand exchange over direct player-to-player trading are that trades can be carried out with all players, over all the servers, and that finding the items you want is automatic so that a player would not be required to stand around in the middle of a bank yelling what item they were selling or buying. The Grand Exchange is available to both members and non-members.
Talk to any of the clerks at the central desk to access the Grand Exchange's main menu. Here, there are six slots for members and two slots for free players, each of which can be used to buy or sell a particular item. Click on any of the empty slots and select if you want to buy or sell items. This will take you to a new menu.
Click on the magnifying glass button to search for the item you wish to buy. You can type all or part of the item's name then click on the item you want on the scroll-down list that appears. Once you've done this, some information about the item appears, including the item's name, examine information, image, and price range.
Next you must enter the quantity of the item you wish to buy and the price you're willing to pay for it. All tradable items have a price range and the price cannot be set outside this price range; the quantity has no limit (with the exception of some highly-priced rare items). The price you set is the maximum price you are willing to pay, but if someone's offering the item for a lower price, you will pay the lower price and will recieve back any change.
Once all this information is set, click the "Confirm Offer" button. This will return you to the main menu where the progress of your offer can be followed. 
Here you can see whether you are buying or selling, the amount of the item you are buying/selling, the price that you are buying/selling it for and the progress of the offer, which is denoted by the bar at the bottom of the slot. An empty bar means none of the items have been bought/sold, an orange bar shows that some of the items have been bought/sold and a green bar indicates that the deal is complete.
Selling an item is done in a similar way to buying. Once you have chosen to sell items from the main menu, click on the item in your inventory that you wish to sell.
Then set the quantity and price, much like as if you were buying items. Again, the price cannot be set outside the item's limit and the quantity is obviously limited to how many of that item you have. Once all this is set, click the "Confirm Offer" button once again.
As well as collecting items you have bought directly from the Exchange, they can also be collected from any bank. Right-click on any banker and select the "Collect" option. This opens the Grand Exchange collection box where money from sold items, items you have bought and change from items you have bought can be withdrawn.
A: Items will stay in the exchange and can be sold while you are logged out. Any money made from your items will be available to you when you log in.
A: That message will also appear if the price of an item you have in the exchange changes, meaning your offer may be affected.
A: Yes, you can right click on any banker around RuneScape and click on the "Collect" option. Note: You can only do this with bankers or booths, you can not access the Grand Exchange from chests at Castle Wars, etc.
A: Items will stay in the Grand Exchange for a maximum of 7 days.
A: You can convert certain item sets (such as black mystic or Guthan's armour) into single-space items by right-clicking the Exchange Clerk, selecting "Sets", right-clicking the image of the set you want, and selecting "Exchange". You can convert it back into individual pieces by reopening the set exchange screen, right-clicking the set item in your inventory, and selecting "Exchange".
