In RuneScape, Slayer is a skill where you must prove yourself against many difficult monsters. Unlike other skills in RuneScape where the training is repetitive, Slayer is a very diverse skill. Slayer awards experience based on the completion of certain tasks. If you want to explore the map whilst experiencing the thrills of combat, slaying is for you.
Another great reason to explore the slaying skill are the Slayer masters, who assign tasks with greater difficulty than the previous master, which ultimately leads to a greater profit. Take note on the information they will provide about your assignments as it will be useful.
There are several parts that make up the foundations of Slayer. Each need to have your full attention to if you are to get off to a good start and do your best when it comes to completing tasks and getting the experience (and rewards!).
To begin slaying you must talk to one of the Slayer masters, they can be all be found be either looking on your mini map for a
or using the world map feature. Those who have completed Dream Mentor will also be able to contact any of the Slayer masters by using the Contact NPC spell. Tasks vary by which Slayer master you use, you could be assigned only a few birds, should you choose to take an assignment from the Burthorpe master and up to 250 Abyssal demons from the master at the Ancient cavern. Some tasks that the masters assign will contain a lot less monsters for you to kill than you would expect, this is usually down to those monsters being a great deal stronger than the average task.
To help you on this assignment, the Slayer master has also provided you with an "Enchanted gem." If you "Activate" the gem, you will be able to communicate with one of the Slayer masters. They will tell you how many more monsters you have to kill, as well as the best techniques to use when fighting the monster. It is recommended that you always bring your gem along due to the information it provides. If you lose this gem, you can buy another one for 1gp from any Slayer master.
When you are done with your assignment, go back and talk to the Slayer master for another one.
If you get a higher-level assignment that you are unhappy with, you can get a new, lower-level one from the Burthorpe Slayer master Turael*. He only changes assignments offered by stronger Slayer masters.
*During While Guthix Sleeps, Turael dies and is replaced by his daughter Spria.
All Slayer masters will assign you tasks that vary of either normal monsters or Slayer monsters, the normal monsters being those you can kill without a Slayer level and the slayer monsters being those that require a level in order to kill.
Each Slayer master will assign monsters within a set amount, these are as follows: Turael/Spria will assign 15-50, Mazchna will assign 40-70, Vannaka will assign 60-120, Chaeldar will assign 110-170, Sumona will assign 120-185, Duradel/Lapalok will assign 130-200 and Kuradal will assign 150-250 on average. Some tasks are however, stronger than others that the master will assign, or require a hard quest in order to reach them they are as follows: from Turael/Spria - icefiends (10-20), From Mazchna - Wall beasts (10-20), from Vannaka - Crocodiles, Earth warriors, Green dragons and Sea snakes (30-60), from Chaeldar - Bronze dragons, Mutated zygomites (30-60) and Elves (60-90), from Sumona - Iron dragons, Red dragons, Scabarite minions, Terror dogs (30-60) and Elves (60-90), from Duradel/Lapalok - Black dragons, Iron dragons, Goraks, Scabarite minions, Skeletal wyverns, Steel dragons, Suqah (40-80) and Mithril dragons (4-8), and from Kuradal - Black dragons (40-90), Blue dragons (150-200), Iron dragons (60-100), Mithril dragons (4-15), Skeletal wyverns (40-90), Steel dragons (40-100), Suqah (50-100), Terror dogs (60-80) and Tzhaar volcanic creatures (80-110*). When Kuradal assigns you Tzhaar to kill she will also offer you a higher alternative of 280, if you accept this task must be done purely in the fight caves and you will receive 25k slayer xp for defeating the TzTok-Jad.
As a final note about Slayer masters, you require a combat level of 3 for Turael/Spria to assign you a task, a combat level of 20 and Priest in Peril complete is required for Mazchna to assign you a task, a combat level of 40 for Vannaka to assign you a task, a combat level of 70 and the Lost City quest complete for Chaeldar to assign you a task, a combat level of 85 along with a at least 35 Slayer and Smoking Kills complete for Sumona to assign you a task, a combat level of 100 along with a Slayer level of 50 and Shilo Village complete for Duradel/Lapalok to assign you a task, and finally, a combat level of 110 and a slayer level of 75 for Kuradal to assign you a Slayer assignment.
* - During the While Guthix Sleeps quest, two of the Slayer Masters, Turael and Duradel, die. Upon their deaths, two new Slayer Masters replace their positions. The replacements Spria and Lapalok perform exactly the same roles as their formers, this includes giving the same slayer tasks.
** - Sumona requires Smoking Kills to be complete before she becomes a Slayer master.
When you reach certain Slayer levels, you will be able to fight certain monsters. Some of these monsters may require the use of special equipment. Every piece of Slayer equipment is available for purchase from the Slayer masters.

When you reach certain levels, you will be able to fight different slayer monsters. Most of these monsters can be found in the Slayer Tower, north-west of Canifis, or in the Slayer Dungeon, far east of Rellekka. These monsters can be very rewarding; however, you must remember to bring your Slayer equipment along in order to kill them. Note that killing slayer monsters does not give any slayer XP. Experience gained from killing any monster set as a slayer assignment is equal to the creature's life points divided by 10, unless certain conditions apply - see FAQ section. The ability to fight these monsters at certain levels, is just a reward. In the table below, please realize that the level given is the slayer level required to kill them, not the monster's combat level.
* Ice Strykewyrm can be attacked without a Fire cape worn if you have purchased the ability to do so from Kuradal; without the cape worn, the Ice Strykewyrm will deal more damage to you and you will deal less damage to them.
So, we have covered the various Slayer masters, and the monsters you can kill as you climb the Slayer ladder. But what are these monsters? Do they have any sneaky attacks up their sleeve? This section will cover all slayer monsters in depth, including all good drops, requirements and techniques.
The Ancient cavern is accessible after certain progress with the barbarian training, to enter you must either dive into the whirlpool at the barbarian outpost, or use a Ferocious ring to teleport there. The cavern is home to many powerful monsters such as the Mithril dragon, which drops the infamous Dragon full helm. The cavern has also become home to the slayer master Kuradal, who has a special dungeon full of many high level Slayer monsters.

The Lumbridge caves are a dark and potentially dangerous labyrinth of tunnels. The Tears of Guthix mini-game can be accessed upon completion of the Tears of Guthix quest, and can be found at the back of this dungeon. While you are in these caves, you must always have a light source, or else you will be attacked by a number of bugs very quickly. Also depending on the form of light source you use, you may or may not need to bring a tinderbox to re-ignite it. Make sure that you do NOT use a light source with a naked flame, or it will explode! A rope is also needed to enter the dungeon. You however only need to use one rope with the hole, as your rope will permanently stay there unless of course you manually remove it. To the far east, you can find a series of caves belonging to the Dorgeshuun goblins. There are many Iron ore and Silver ore to mine down there.
There are many low level slayer monsters in this dungeon including Cave bugs, Cave crawlers, and Wall beasts that attack when you pass positions on the cave wall marked in the map. To avoid having the Wall beasts constantly attacking you, wear a Spiny helmet.
The Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon contains many slayer monsters including a beefed up level 96 Cave bug and Molanisks. One feature of this dungeon is the fairy ring (AJQ), which allows you quicker access to these Slayer monsters. For all those people who enjoy killing Kalphites, there is also a shortcut that leads to the Kalphite worker room. You can also fish Slimy eel and Frog spawn in the dungeon.

The entrance to this Slayer dungeon is east of the Fremennik Province. Enter the cave just east of the Golden apple tree. In this dungeon you will find a variety of different slayer monsters, usually one type in each room. As you progress further into the dungeon the level of the monsters, as well as the Slayer level required to kill them will increase. Cannons cannot be used in this dungeon.

The Tower is located just north-west of Canifis. To access it, you need to have completed the Priest in Peril quest. The tower is home to some high-level Slayer monsters including the Abyssal demon, which drops the powerful Abyssal Whip. Located in the tower are two Agility shortcuts. The medium spiked chain climb requires 61 Agility, and the advanced spiked chain climb requires level 71 Agility
Some of the Slayer creatures in the tower are aggressive, and can be dangerous if you come unprepared. See our Slayer equipment guide for the items you need to bring to defend yourself against the creatures.

This dungeon is located beneath Pollnivneach in the Kharidian Desert. You must wear a Masked earmuffs or Slayer helmet, as you need the protection of Earmuffs and Facemask (and possibly more) simultaneously. During the Smoking Kills quest you may only access the upper floor, but after the quest you can access the stairs.
The lower level has four sections behind barriers. To pass through the barriers you must defeat the respective Slayer monster boss. You only have to defeat the boss once to gain access to the section. Kurask Overlord, Mightiest Turoth, Basilisk Boss and Monstrous Cave Crawler are the respective boss monsters. Each section contains portals which will transport you to the Rellekka Slayer Dungeon and the respective monster locations. These portals are one-way only.

Rewards can be sectioned into two categories. Those that you receive from Slayer masters, and those that you as drops during your assignments. When you complete Slayer assignments consecutively you will earn points with the slayer masters. These points start coming in after completing four consecutive assignments and then after that point you will earn a set number of points for each task you complete. If you skip a task by going to Turael though, you will have to start again by completing four assignments in order to start receiving points again.
The points you receive vary upon which Slayer master you use. These are the points earned for each master: You will also receive bonus points for the every 10 assignments you complete and for every 50; an assignment count that falls into a multiple of 10 will award you with slayer points equal to 5 time the normal amount, for example - Chaeldar's bonus for an assignment within a multiple of 10 would be 50. The bonus you receive for an assignment count that falls into a multiple of 50 will award you with a bonus equal to 15 times the normal amount of points you would normally receive, using Chaeldar as an example again - your 50th task will give 150 Slayer points.

As mentioned above, you receive points from completing slayer assignments. The uses for these points can be broken down into three types; Items and experience, abilities, and assignment stopping. These are explained in full below.
You can spend the points that you receive at any slayer master. These points can be spent on a plethora of new items, abilities and experience to help you out with slayer.

The final thing you can spend your points on is being able to stop a current assignment or stop it entirely.
For the first option, you may end a current assignment by paying 30 points. This is like a substitute for using Turael except you won’t have to go through all the hassle of doing a low leveled task. Using this will also stop you from getting the penalty of doing five tasks again to gain points.
The second option allows you to prevent your Slayer master from assigning you that task ever again by paying up 100 points. If you feel that you want to accept the tasks that you canceled then you can go to the list below and click on the X mark. Beware though as you won’t be able to receive the points you spent on preventing them back. The amount of tasks you can prevent depend on the amount of quest points you have.
- 50 quest points allows you to prevent one task.
- 100 quest points allows you to prevent up to two tasks.
- 150 quest points allows you to prevent up to three tasks.
- 200 quest points allows you to prevent up four tasks.
- 250 quest points allows you to prevent up five tasks.

A: No, only one of them works at any time. No, the black mask cannot be recharged.
A: The total amount of xp is equal to the life points of the monster divided by 10. That amount will be split given the following criteria: half for the one that made the most damage, and half for the one that made the hit that killed the monster. This is the same if a monster is killed in a single-combat area; i.e. by one player logging out or teleporting and the other finishing the kill. Please note that both players will have one kill deducted from their task count as normal.
A: Yes.
A: No; a Slayer master will not assign you monsters that you are not able to reach. For example, you would not have to kill Elves if you have not done the Regicide quest. However, if you've started a quest, you may be given monsters from that quest to kill. In Regicide, you may be assigned Elves if you've started the quest, even if you haven't actually reached the elven land yet.
A: Only if you are assigned to kill them by a Slayer master.
A: When Kuradal assigns TzHaar volcanic creatures, she will also offer to increase the task to 280, which is the total amount of monsters in the fight caves. If you accept this extension, you will only be able to kill monsters in the fight caves for any slayer xp. If you manage to kill TzTok-Jad, during your task, you will be awarded 25,000 experience in Slayer.
