1.0 - Introduction

On November 26th, 2008, Jagex released the first Grandmaster quest, While Guthix Sleeps. Along with this quest came the newest Dragon items: the Dragon claws and the Dragon platebody. One of the monsters that you encounter in the quest was the Tormented demon. The Tormented demons drop the parts used for the Dragon platebody, and they also drop the Dragon Claws which is one of the deadliest special attacking weapons in the lands of RuneScape. They drop: Ruined dragon armour lumps, Ruined dragon armour slices, and Ruined dragon armour shards.

The Tormented Demons, also referred to as 'TD', was released on November 26th, and requires the aforementioned quest (While Guthix Sleeps) in order to fight it. It is currently in the top ten strongest monsters in RuneScape. Its body is odd in that it is part organic and part Dragon metal. The monster can hit up to 300 with magic, ranged, and melee but hits 250 or 260 very often so beware of your Constitution. Tormented Demons reside in a multi-combat area, so it is possible to attack it as a team. It's recommended before you take on these demons, that you read this guide to ensure you are ready to take them on.

2.0 - Tormented Demon

Before you accept the challenge on fighting these demons, it is best to know a bit of factual information about them. Like the fight caves, you must know how to switch your prayer's the attacks. Same goes to the Tormented Demon, You must adjust your prayers to its attacks in order to survive. However, there are multiple demons in the one area, so it is also possible for more than one demon to attack a player. They have extremely high Defence and life points so having higher Ranged or Strength is advised.

When the Tormented Demon's are protecting from ranged attacks, you need to use a Darklight, or you won't hit them, even with a melee weapon. In addition, they generate a form of a flaming shield. When they have this shield, you are only able to max 50-70. Use your Darklight to get rid of it.

2.1 - Attack Styles

The Tormented Demons, have four different attack styles, which are a different variety of styles. There are one of each for Ranged, Melee, and Magical attacks, and fourth attack is a combo between Magic and Ranged, which can deal up to a maximum of 600 damage, if not praying.

Melee Attack

This attack style is a melee based attack. It generally inflicts a common hit of 200+, but it's capable of doing 300s. The ideal is to keep your eye on the screen, and adjust your prayer's according to the demon's attacks.

Ranged Attack

This attack style is a ranged based attack. It generally inflicts a common hit of 200+, but it's capable of doing 300s. The ideal is to keep your eye on the screen, and adjust your prayer's according to the demon's attacks.

Magic Attack

This attack style is a magical based attack. It generally inflicts a common hit of 250+, but it's capable of doing 300s. The ideal is to keep your eye on the screen, and adjust your prayer's according to the demon's attacks.

Combo Attack

This attack style is a ranged and magical based attack. This is the worst attack possible. The damage from the magical attack is a max of 300, along with the ranged attack being a max of 300. Combined, it makes a grand total of 600 damage. However, you generally have one of your prayers on, so you will only intake a max of 300 damage loss.

Special Shield

This is the Tormented Demons special shield which activates randomly. You must use Darklight to remove this, or you will not hit anything if not, nothing above 70 damage to the demon.

2.2 - Strategy for Prayer Switching

The Tormented demons are much like TzTok-Jad because they both use a variety of attack methods. Fighting these demons require at least 43 Prayer.

The strategy for prayer switching is quite easy. Always have Protect from Magic attacks, as it will be the most common attack, and generally your defensive bonuses for Magic is low. Whenever the demon changes his attacks, simply activate the next prayer, and then activate the Protect from Magic prayer. Same goes with the combo attack. Your set-up you should of chosen, should have a great Ranged defensive bonus, that you should not be inflicted of so much damage.

3.0 - Equipment & Inventory

You should always prepare for monsters in RuneScape, especially the Tormented demons. They are not something you should think less of, because they can be deadly at all states. This guide has narrowed it down to the best possible equipment for those who are ranging, and for those who are meleeing to complete this adventure.

3.1 - Melee

If you choose to melee the Tormented demons, you will need a really good set-up against all their attacks. You are going to need good defence bonuses, but still managing a good strength bonus. This section has covered the basics in a decent set-up.

The best weapon for meleeing the Tormented Demons would be the Godsword and the Dragon Halberd (The Darklight is only used for the shield). Using a Dragon Halberd is mainly good for the safe spot for the melee attack. The Godswords are destructive weapons with indestructible special attacks which could hit a major inflicted damage. When you first attack the demon, it is recommended you use the Godsword to start off, and then follow up on the Dragon Halberd.

On on a side note, bringing Guthan's may be useful for healing when low hit points to save on Shark or Rocktail. The Guthan's set is useful for its high stab bonus and healing purposes.

  • » Sapphire lantern
  • » Darklight
  • » Dragon Helberd
  • Alternative: Godsword or Abyssal Whip

Tactic:

Many people use a hybrid setup to get around the demon's constant Prayer to whatever style of Combat you're using. Once you weaken the demon's shield, start by either Ranging or Meleeing the demon from a safe spot to avoid its Melee attacks. This is where the Dragon Halberd comes in; you can Range and Melee the demon from the same spot (assuming you are using Ava's Accumulator). Whenever the demon changes Prayer to match your attack style, simply switch styles. Remember to stay attentive to the demon's attacks to be able to switch between Range and Magic prayers.

4.0 - Getting there

As mentioned, you will need to complete the grandmaster quest While Guthix Sleeps. After doing so, you will need to head down to good old Lumbridge, and go downstairs to the basement. Use the bank from Recipe from Diaster, and make sure you have everything. Go through the cave wall.

Now that you have entered the cave wall, run completely south and cross the rivers and obstacles as you overcome them. Enter the far south cave. You now appear in a different dimension. Simply run east, and enter the chasm. Your character should now fall down through the mountains. You're almost there. Now run completely south and climb up the mountains.

Climb a few more mountains, and you will come across a skull looking cave. Enter this cave. Congratulations, you are there! As soon as you enter the lair of the Tormented Demon's, activate your prayer magic protection.

Now to find a spot. Roam around the lair and look for a spot to yourself. You should hide from its melee attack, only having to worry about the Ranged, Magical, and Combo attacks. When the demon starts shaking, this means it is about to send the combo attack. It's a range/mage attack, so protect from mage, and hope your set-up is good enough to defend against the ranged attack. Eat a shark to heal against the combo attacks. Your restores/prayer potions should be enough to defend off the other attacks.

These drops are the three pieces of the Dragon platebody. In order to smith a Dragon platebody, you will need a Blast fusion Hammer, and a Dragonkin key. You receive both halves of the Key from the While Guthix Sleeps quest, and you need to use the pieces on a Mithril dragon to forge it into a Dragonkin key. You need to go to the Ancient Cavern and find the dragon forge to smith the platebody. You must have use the Dragonkin key to get into the forge. 92 Smithing is required to fuse all 3 of pieces into a Dragon platebody.

As of now, the dragon platebody is probably one of the best platebodies in the game. Barrows may have better bonuses, but the dragon platebody doesn't have to be fixed or repaired.
