RuneScape always has had a large landmass, but as more and more updates include extra lands, traveling from one end of the map to the other has gotten more difficult.
There has always been a magic system to get around, but this system doesn't go to every spot one might want to go to. So, in addition to the magic teleportation system, there are trees that will take you around, magic carpets and several other methods which include teleport abilities and a entire skill that helps you get around in various ways.
The main form of transportation in RuneScape is walking around. But in addition to walking around, players can run to get somewhere faster. To run, a player just needs to either hold the control key and click where they want to go, click the running icon by your minimap, or by clicking on the little running icon on the options interface and choose the 'run' option.
How long a person can run for depends on a few things. Every character has an energy meter. The more energy they have, the longer they can run. How long a person's energy lasts depends on how much weight a person is carrying. The more weight you're carrying, the faster your energy runs out. If you have completed, or at least started, the Temple of Ikov quest you can use boots of lightness to take off 4 kg of your weight, allowing you to be able to conserve precious weight. One can also use spotted or spottier capes if their hunter level is high enough.
A person's energy level restores itself over time, but there are a few items that help recharge it faster. These items are energy potions, super energy potions, strange fruit, and white fruit.
One can also rest to regain run energy. To do so, simply right click on the run icon and select rest. You cannot move while resting. You will regain run energy faster if you rest in front of musicians, which are located in various places throughout Gielinor.

The agility skill allows players even more help in getting around RuneScape. The higher your agility level, the faster your run energy recharges. Also there are many obstacles in RuneScape that you can use as shortcuts to get around, but they need certain agility levels. Check out the Agility guide for more information on the shortcuts. |

There are multiple spells in that allow you to teleport from where you are to another location. There are 10 spells in the 'basic' Magic spell book to teleport yourself elsewhere and 3 spells that allow you to teleport another player to the specified city. There are also 8 teleport spells in the Ancient Magicks spell book. Lastly the Lunar Spells give you 7 teleport self spells and 7 teleport group spells.
Using the basic spell book you can teleport to Varrock, Lumbridge, Mobilising Armies , Falador, Camelot, Ardougne, Trollheim, the Yanille Watch tower, your player owned house and Ape Atoll. You can teleport other players to Lumbridge, Camelot and Falador.
Note: to use Ardougne teleport, you must complete the Plague City quest. To use Watchtower teleport you must complete the Watch Tower quest. To use Trollheim teleport, you must have completed Eadgar's Ruse quest. To use the Ape Atoll teleport you must have completed the King Awowogei subquest of Recipe for Disaster.
Using the Ancient Magicks spell book you can teleport to Edgeville, the Digsite, Canifis, the Ice Mountain, to the ruins in level 23 wilderness, to the Wilderness Volcano in level 19 wilderness, to the Demonic Ruins in level 46 wilderness and to the Frozen Waste Plateau in level 44 wilderness.
The lunar spell book allows you to teleport to the Lunar Isle, the ZMI altar, Waterbirth Island, the Barbarian Outpost, Port Khazard, the Fishing Guild, Catherby, and the Ice Plateau.
Please check the Magic guide for more information on teleporting around RuneScape.
You can also teleport using teleport tablets. Members can create these tabs using soft clay and the nessesary runes on a lectern in a Player Owned House to make a one time uses tab of the teleport spell. The tabs can be made to take you to Varrock, Falador, Lumbridge, Camelot, Ardougne, Watchtower and House teleport. You can also acquire them through the grand exchange, which helps for players who can't make teleport tablets.
After completion of Love Story quest you learn a method of modifying the House tabs to be able to teleport you to any of the House portals. Their locations are Rimmington, Taverly, Pollnivneach, Brimhaven, Rellekka, and Yanille. And upon completion of King of the Dwarves quest you can take a diary back to the Wise Old Man in Draynor Village and learn how to make a Trollheim tab.
There are many islands in the realm of RuneScape. They all require a boat to travel there. While some of the boat rides are free, others cost you a bit of money to travel to your destination. Here's a list of sailing routes you can go on and how much they cost.
- Port Sarim to N. Karamja: 30gp
- Ardougne to Brimhaven: 30gp
- Shilo Village to Port Khazard or Port Sarim: 25gp
- Buy a ship ticket from Seravel in the fishing shop in Shilo Village, or from Captain Shanks on the ship 36 to 50gp.
- Port Phasmatys to Dragontooth Island: 25 Ecto-tokens
- Port Sarim to Entrana: 0gp
- Rellekka to Miscellania and Etceteria: 0gp (must have completed The Fremennik Trials quest).
- Rellekka to Waterbirth Island: 0gp if you completed the The Fremennik Trials quest, 1,000 gp to get there if you have not.
There are another form of ship that you need to pay to travel on. These are chartered ships that can take you from nearly any port to whatever port you wish to go to. The price varies from location to location and where you want to travel but generally ranges from 200gp to 5,000gp. Certain ports require quests to be completed. The ports that can be accessed through the charter ships are:
- Mos Le'harmless (Completion of Cabin Fever)
- Shipyard
- Catherby
- Karamja
- Brimhaven
- Port Sarim
- Port Khazard
- Port Tyras (Completion of Regicide)
- Port Phasmatys
- Oo'glog (Completion of As a First Resort...)
There is also one other boating experience you can go on. This is the Fishing Trawler mini game. The mini game starts from Port Khazard. If you successfully complete your trip you are returned to Port Khazard. If your boat sinks, you can float your way to the peninsula south of the Tower of Life.
After helping the ogres in the Recipe for Disaster quest, you can travel from Feldip Hills' Chompy Hunting Area to Karamja for 2 cooked chompy, and from Karamja to Feldip Hills for 2 snake weed.
After completing In Search of the Myreque, players can take a boat just south from their refuge under the Canifis pub down to Mort'ton. There is no toll and by taking the boat it reduces the chance of food rotting in a player's inventory and the player from being harmed by Mort Myre's swamp decay effect. People heading to and from the Barrows often use this method until they can access the bank in Burgh de Rott.
Once you have completed the Tree Gnome Village quest you can use special trees to teleport around. These are known as Spirit Trees. The spirit trees allow you to teleport between the Tree Gnome Stronghold, the Gnome Maze, the Khazard battlefield, Mobilising Armies, and in north-western Varrock, just above the Grand Exchange. After completing The Path Of Glouphrie the spirit trees can also transport players to an area south-west of the Elf lands. If you have 83 Farming, you can also plant a spirit tree in one of three locations. You can only have one spirit tree planted at a time; however, the completion of the Prisoner of Glouphrie, The allows you to have two spirit trees planted at a time.
On the top floor of the Grand Tree, a gnome guards his glider. Upon completion of the The Grand Tree quest, this gnome will allow you to travel throughout RuneScape, on his glider. The Grand Tree glider is the central one, meaning to get from one of the other glider locations to another, you have to go through the Grand Tree. If you take the glider to the Brimhaven jungle during a quest, you will crash land; although, there is another glider located just south-east of where you crashed, which can return you to the Grand Tree. You will also crash if you fly to the Digsite. To be able to catch the glider to Feldip Hills, you must complete the One Small Favour quest. Also, in order to catch the glider to tree gnome village, you must complete the Prisoner of Glouphrie, The quest.
Below is a list of what each name's location is:
- Ta Quir Priw | Grand Tree
- Sindarpos | White Wolf Mountain
- Lemanto Andra | Digsite
- Kar-Hewo | Al-Kharid
- Lemantolly Undri | Feldip Hills
- Gandius | Brimhaven Jungle
- Priw Gnomo Andralo | Tree Gnome Village
There is also a special glider that you can use to go to Ape Atoll and Crash Isle. You must have started the Monkey Madness quest to use this glider; speak to Daero on the second floor of the Grand Tree.
Rather than trekking throughout the desert to get to a desert city, there is a faster method! To catch a magic carpet ride, you must speak with the rug merchant (Ali M), just past the Shantay Pass. Each trip will cost you 200gp, or less if you do a certain task for Ali M. Using the Ring of Charos(a), also results in a cheaper price. Below is a list of routes you can take:
- Shantay Pass to Bedabin Camp
- Shantay Pass to Ruins of Uzer
- Shantay Pass to Pollnivneach
- Pollnivneach to Sophanem
- Pollnivneach to Menaphos
There are 2 different types of carting that you can use to travel with, the jungle cart and the Dwarven Mine Cart system.
If you have completed the Shilo Village quest, you can catch a ride on Hajedy's cart from Brimhaven to Shilo Village or on Vigroy's cart from Shilo Village to Brimhaven. The fee to use their carting service is 10gp.
To use the Dwarven Mine Cart system you must have started The Giant Dwarf quest. The mine carts allow you to travel from the Dwarven Mines or the dwarf post under White Wolf Mountain to the Dwarven city of Keldagrim and back. Tickets are no longer required.
To use the Dwarven Mine Cart system you must have started The Giant Dwarf quest. The mine carts allows travel from the Dwarven Mines to the dwarf post under White Wolf Mountain, Keldagrim, and the Grand Exchange in Varrock. Tickets are no longer required.
Canoes are a way to travel along the river Lum in RuneScape. They allows you to paddle your way along and admire the scenery instead of getting stuck in trees, and having to run around fences. Making canoes will require a woodcutting axe, which can be brought along or obtained from any of the assistants at the trees.
There are four different canoe sites along the River Lum. All the canoes can go in both directions unless you're at either the Edgeville or Lumbridge hub. The Waka canoe is the only one of its kind that can take you to the wilderness. The canoe takes you to level 35 wilderness, between the Lava Maze and the Red Dragon Isle; note that it is only a one way trip from Edgeville.
| Canoe Name | Woodcutting Level | Stops |
| Log canoe | 12 | Every stop |
| Dugout canoe | 27 | Every 2 stops |
| Stable Dugout canoe | 42 | Every 3 stops |
| Waka canoe | 57 | Every 4 stops |
- Edgeville - South of the bridge on the east side of the River Lum
- Barbarian Village - South-west side of the bridge crossing the River Lum
- Champions' Guild - South-east of the guild
- Lumbridge - South of the goblin house

After completion of the Eagles' Peak quest, you gain access to a very fast way of traveling. Eagles are located inside of Eagles' Peak. There are three types of eagles; ice, desert, and jungle, all of which require different requirements to enter and exit their caves (explained in the table below). Each take you to a different hunting region.
To travel on an eagle you need level 27 hunter, and a rope. After you lasso the eagle, you will find yourself in a cave (different for each type of eagle). There are two ways leading out; one is for the eagle, the other is for you. If you need to go back to Eagles' Peak re-lasso the eagle.
| Type | Requirements | Transports |
| Ice | 35 Agility | Rellekka hunting grounds |
| Jungle | A small vine to get down from the eagle's cave, to do this use a Garden Cane (Found in Fenkenstrain's Castle), teasing stick or a thatching spear, on the young vine at the base. | Feldip hunting grounds |
| Desert | Push out a boulder (45+ strength required) at the base of the cave. | Nardah hunting grounds |
| Karamjan Jungle | Must have completed Back to My Roots quest, must use a rope on the eagle above the vine maze. | Karamja Jade Vine Maze |

There are many items in RuneScape that allow you to teleport to specific locations. Many of these items are enchanted pieces of jewellery but there are other items too.
For members there are many forms of jewellery that can be used to teleport you to certain destinations. The most widely used item is the Amulet of Glory, due to the fact that it can teleport to one of four locations, four times before requiring a recharge at the Heroes' Guild. The four locations you can teleport to using this amulet are Edgeville, Draynor Village, Al-Kharid and N. Karamja.

The next most common item used to teleport for many is the Ring of Duelling. This ring allows you to the Duel Arena, the Fist of Guthix Mini game and to the Castle Wars lobby. It is commonly used by rune-crafters or people using the bone grinder at Port Phasmatys, as it allows you to go to a bank quickly in the Castle Wars lobby instead of running all over the place.

Next comes the Games necklace. This teleports you to the lobby of the Games Room in Burthorpe. From here it's a quick walk to the Rogue's Den, Taverley Dungeon, or the Heroes' Guild. The game necklace also teleports to Barbarian Assault lobby, which is also a quick walk to the Barbarian Outpost, Grand Tree, and the lighthouse. The necklace can also teleport players to two different locations within the wilderness, the Wilderness Volcano and Clan Wars mini games. This means that it can be a useful and safe form of entrance into the wilderness.

The Combat Bracelet made from a dragon stone, once charged on the Legends' Guild totem pole, can teleport to the Champions' Guild, Prayer Guild, Rangers' Guild and the Warriors' Guild.

There is one other item of jewellery that has some teleportation properties; the Ring of life. When you fall below 10% of your hit points level, and have equipped the ring, it will teleport you to your death spawn area (Lumbridge, Falador or Camelot), but will not kill you. Note that if you have 11hp and the creature hits you for 11+ you will die normally. The ring has one use; after which it will disintegrate.

The Digsite pendant at the moment only allows players to teleport to the Digsite south-west of Varrock city. To learn how to make Digsite pendants players must clean an amulet artefact in Varrock Museum and then show it to an archaeologist nearby, afterwards you be taught how to enchant Ruby neclaces. Digsite pendants hold 5 charges before crumbling to dust.

The Ring of Slaying costs 75 points and allows you to teleport to the following locations: Pollniveach, the Slayer tower, the Slayer dungeon, and the Morytania slayer dungeon. If you have defeated Tarn Razorlor you may also teleport directly to his lair. The ring has 8 teleport charges.

The Necklace of Skils has the ability to teleport you to the Fishing, Crafting, Mining, and Cooking Guild. It comes with 4 charges and can be recharged at the totem poll in the Legends Guild.

If you have completed all of the beginner, easy, and medium tasks of the Lumbridge/Draynor Achievement Diary, you will receive this ring that will allow you to teleport to the cabbage fields south of Falador.

If you have completed the Ghosts Ahoy quest, part of the reward is the Ectophial which allows you to teleport to the Ectofuntus which is next to Port Phasmatys. Always remember to refill your Ectophial from the Ectofuntus or you cant use it to teleport. This is the fastest way to teleport to the swamp areas if you do not have your spell book set to Ancient Magicks.

Another object that allows you to teleport is the Enchanted Lyre. It has between two and four charges when you enchant depending on what fish you use to enchant it, and it teleports you close to Rellekka. The Lyre can be re-enchanted by taking the lyre and one shark, sea turtle or manta ray to the Fossegrimen altar and making a offering. A shark gives the lyre 2 charges, a manta ray gives 3 charges and a sea turtle gives 4. You get the lyre by doing The Fremennik Trials quest.

There is a special crystal that will teleport you to the city of Lletya. You get one of these crystals at the end of the Mourning's Ends Part I quest and if you kill elves they can drop un-charged crystals or very rarely charged crystals. They can be re-enchanted by talking to Eluned, who you spoke to, to finish Mourning's Ends Part I.
You can obtain a skull sceptre, which will allow for 5 teleports to Barbarian Village. You get the pieces by killing monsters in the Stronghold of Security. More info on it can be found here.

You are also able to obtain a Pharoah's Sceptre, this will teleport you to 3 pyramids. Jaleustrophos (Agility Pyramid), Jaldraocht (Azzandra Pyramid), Jalsavrah (Pyramid Plunder Pyramid). The Pharoah's Sceptre can be bought or found while playing the mini-game Pyramid Plunder.

The Camulet allows you to speak with camels and Ugthanki, as well as providing a teleport to Enakhra's Lament in the Kharidian desert. The amulet holds four charges before it needs to be recharged. To recharge the amulet you must use it with a bucket of dung.

After completion of Swept Away quest, you'll be given a broom. When enchanted by the Apprentice, you can teleport to the Sorceress's Garden. The broom has an unlimited amount of charges.
After completion of the Another Slice of H.A.M. quest, you have the ability to buy teleport spheres from Oldak. Oldak is located in north-western Dorgesh-kaan. Each on costs one molten glass and 2 law runes.

The Lodestone Network is a teleportation system that uses the Home Teleport spell. To use a lodestone, you must locate, then activate it. After selecting Home Teleport, an interface will pop up, allowing you to choose where to teleport. Upon activating a lodestone, you will complete a task in the Lodestone Network Tasks set.
Only Lumbridge, Al Kharid, Draynor Village, Edgeville, Falador, Port Sarim and Varrock are available to non-members.
| Name | Location |
| Lumbridge | Outside Lumbridge Castle. |
| Burthorpe | Center of Burthorpe, east of Warriors' Guild |

| Taverley | South of Player-owned house Portal |
| Al Kharid | North of Al Kharid Palace |
| Varrock | South gate. |
| Edgeville | West of the General Store. |
| Falador | Outside north gate. |

| Yanille | Outside the west gate. |
| Seers' Village | South of the Forester's Arms pub |
In the Magic Guild there are three portals that can send you to different wizard towers in RuneScape. The east portal sends you the wizard tower south of Draynor Village. The west portal sends you to Thormac the Sorcerer's tower south of Seers' Village. The south portal sends you to the dark wizard tower north of the crafting guild.
In the top floor of the dark wizard tower, which can be found noth of the crafting guild, when you talk to one of the wizards, they will ask you to leave. If you refuse, you will be teleported to Lumbridge swamp.
Another form of traveling happens when you die. After death you are sent to Lumbridge (or either; Falador if you chose to spawn there after completing the Recruitment Drive quest, or Camelot after completing King's Ransom quest and the training afterwards.)
If you have completed (or have unlocked the rings) in the A Fairy Tale Part II, you are able to use the Fairy Rings. They allow you to teleport all over RuneScape though you need to have a dramen or Lunar Staff wielded when using them.
Getting arrested can get you around as well. Speak to Shantay in the Shantay Pass. Select the first option "What is the place?" then tell him "I'm definitely a bandit." He will have you thrown in jail, and if you refuse to pay 5 gp, you will be transported to the maximum security prison in Port Sarim where you can pick the lock and go free.
After completion of Another Slice of H.A.M., you will be able to access the subway train which will allow free transport between Dorgesh-Kaan and Keldagrim.
