Crafting is a skill used by many in RuneScape to help give them an edge in combat or make some quick cash. Players often use Crafting to make items such as amulets, armour which can enhance your fighting stats, or give you protection, as opposed to buying the items from other players. Using Crafting, you can also make items to help you explore places like lanterns or hold food like bowls and pie dishes.
You will need a number of supplies to begin Crafting. For leatherworking, you will obviously need leather as well as a needle and thread. It is important that you are familiar with these things to make your Crafting careers much easier.
A Crafting store will carry most of the supplies in its stocks, but you will have to obtain other Crafting supplies or equipment from other areas around RuneScape. This table will show you where to get the supplies that you will need.

To create silver and gold jewellery you will need moulds. Most of the moulds can be bought at any Crafting store. The most popular Crafting store would be in Al Kharid, where Dommik runs it.

Crafting can be used in many ways. Here are all the uses.
Pottery is a skill that is not very useful at the higher levels, however many lower levels may find it helpful in leveling up their Crafting. Here is the basic method of Crafting pottery.

- Mine some clay and use a bucket of water on it to make soft clay.
- Use the soft clay with a Pottery wheel and choose what you want to make
- Use the unfired item with the Pottery oven. Beware there is a chance of failing when you fire the object.
You can find Pottery wheels and ovens in the Crafting Guild, Barbarian Village, in the western part of East Ardougne, in the northern part of Draynor Village, and in Rellekka. This table shows all the forms of pottery.

*The clay ring can be enchanted into the Ring of devotion by taking it to Father Aereck in the Lumbridge Church. The Ring of devotion gives +1 in all defence stat bonuses. It also counts for a Saradomin item in the God Wars Dungeon.
Urns are a special form of pottery that have the ability to store various odds and ends whilst training certain skills. When you have one in your inventory, it will collect scraps of the material that you're gathering. For example, if you were to mine coal with a decorated mining urn, it would fill up by 1% each time you successfully mine the rock (the coal will stay in your inventory). The rate at which it fills, however, is based on the material that you're gathering. When it eventually reaches 100%, simply right-click it, select 'Teleport,' and it will grant you some bonus experience in the skill represented by the urn. Note that you may only fill one urn at a time and cannot have more than ten of the same type filled at once.
- Mine some clay and use it on any water source to make soft clay.
- Use the soft clay with a pottery wheel and select the urn that you would like to make
- Use the unfired urn with the pottery oven. Beware there is a chance of failing when you fire the object.
- Attach the appropriate rune to the urn.
The table below will explain the mechanics behind each individual urn.

Spinning is yet another basic form of Crafting; however, it plays a useful role in the world of Crafting and others skills as well.
Three items can be spin into a form of string. When wool from a sheep is spun, you will get a ball of wool. Use the balls of wool on amulets or wherever else needed. The best location for flax is found in Lletya; there is a field of flax just outside the bank. Alternatively, you can find flax in Taverley, Seers' Village, Lunar Isle and the Tree Gnome Stronghold. Spin flax into bow string. Finally, the magic roots, obtained whilst Farming, will produce a string for the Amulet of nature.
You can find spinning wheels in the Lumbridge Castle, Falador, Crafting Guild, Barbarian Village, Seers' Village, Lletya, Sophanem, and in tree houses in the Tree Gnome Stronghold It's worth noting that if you are getting flax from a bank and spinning it, it is fastest to do so in Lumbridge. If you don't like having to use the steps, the next closest is in Fremennik Isles, after completion of Fremennik Isles, The quest. However, it's best to make bow string in Seers' Village if you are picking your own flax, because the spinning wheel is on the way to the bank.
By wearing the Seer's headband 3 from the Seers' Tasks, it grants you faster spinning when using the wheel inside Seers' Village.

Leatherworking is one of the most popular forms of Crafting. It involves obtaining the hide of a dead dragon, snake or cow, tanning it and then sewing the leather to produce armour.
By killing cows, you can obtain cowhides. By killing any Bush snake, Swamp snake and Snake, you can obtain snake hides. Bush snakes jump out of dense jungle in the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup Mini-game, only snakes on Mos Le'Harmless will drop snakeskin. Swamp snake hides are dropped from the swamp snakes during Temple Trekking activity. Just simply use a knife on the dead swamp snake (which the snake becomes when killed) to get 2 to 5 hides. Note: Tanning swamp snake hides costs more than tanning regular snake hides. By killing respectively coloured dragons, you can obtain green, blue, red or black dragonhides.
To tan your hides simply take them to a tanner in Crafting Guild, Al Kharid, Rangers' Guild or Canifis. The tanner in Al Kharid is the closest to the bank and there is a Crafting shop in the town.
Now that you have your leather, you require a needle and a bunch of thread. Use your needle on the leather and craft your desired piece of armour. You use one thread for every four hides, so make sure you have enough.
To create studded chaps and body, simply make soft leather body chaps. Then smith some steel studs (1 steel bar = 1 stud), which requires level 36 Smithing, and add them to the pieces of leather armour.

Silver working is an area of Crafting is the common route to try to gain levels fast. The steps for working with silver are:
- Get some silver ores and a mould for the item you wish to make.
- Smelt your silver ore in a furnace to create a silver bar.
- With the proper mould in your inventory, use the silver bar on the furnace, and a menu will appear where you can choose what item to make.
- If you made a Holy symbol or an Unholy symbol, use a ball of wool on it to make an Unblessed symbol.
You can find popular furnaces in Al Kharid, Falador, Shilo Village, Edgeville and Port Phasmatys. The furnace in Edgeville requires the completion of the first part of the Varrock Tasks.

You can obtain gems in RuneScape as drops from monsters, through Mining, or stealing from various stalls or vaults. Opal, jade, and red topaz are obtained by panning in the Digsite area or through Mining the gem rocks in Shilo Village. Before the Ring of wealth update, you could only obtain Uncut dragonstones by using a crystal key on the chest in Taverley (or buying from another player); now, you obtain Uncut dragonstones as a drop by wearing the Ring of wealth. Certain very strong monsters can drop cut Dragonstones.
To cut a gem, simply use a chisel on it and if you have the required Crafting level to do so, you cut the gem. There is now a "Cut X" option to make for easier gem cutting. You can use cut gems in the creation of jewellery and bolt tips.

Golden jewellery is one of the most rewarding areas of Crafting. When you use Magic to enchant your jewellery, you will gain new abilities such as teleporting or extra strength in combat. In RuneScape, it is possible to make rings, necklaces and amulets out of gold. Here are the steps to making golden jewellery:
- Get a ring, necklace, bracelet or amulet mould as well as some [item]gold ore.
- Smelt the ore into a gold bar by using it on a furnace.
- If you wish to put a gem into your item, have a cut gem in your inventory along with the gold.
- Use the gold bar on the furnace, a screen will come up where you can choose which item to make. On this screen, there is now a "Craft X" option to create ease when creating jewellery.
- You can craft an amulet; use a ball of wool on it first so it can hang from your neck. This can now be done with easy with a "String X" option.
When your golden jewellery is complete, you can then enchant it. Please note that only members can enchant rings and necklaces. For more information on enchanting, visit the Magic guide.

Glass working is not very popular as it is so complicated, but can be very useful in certain situations. Here are the basic steps to glass working:
- Use an empty bucket with a sand pit to get a bucket of sand.
- Use seaweed with a range to get soda ash.
- Use your bucket of sand or your soda ash from your inventory on a furnace and you will receive molten glass. (You must have both items in your inventory)
- Get a glassblowing pipe. One spawns in a house on Entrana. You can also get one from Grandpa Jack's house, located in Hemenster. Use the glassblowing pipe on the molten glass and choose which item you wish to make. Note that a "Make X" option now makes your glass making experience more enjoyable.
Seaweed spawns on the shores of the river in Shilo Village, on the coast of Entrana, or you can catch it using a big fishing net. You can pick it up on the coast surrounding Rellekka. You could also pick up seaweed from the spawn in Piscatoris Fishing Colony, and use the big fishing nets to catch monkfish at the same time. Another good way to get seaweed is to buy from Arhein in Catherby, who sells quite a large amount of seaweed for a small amount of money. To buy seaweed, talk to him using the "talk to" option and say "I hear you sell seaweed...".
You can fill your empty bucket with sand on Entrana, in Yanille, Zanaris or Rellekka. By completing the Hand in the Sand, The quest, Bert will ship 84 buckets of sand to your bank if you talk to him after the quest. This can be done once a day (per 24 hours). Clicking on the quest's name will give you the time left before you can ask him again. By completing the elite Ardougne Tasks, the number will increase to 120.
Alternately, after completing the Dream Mentor quest, you can use lunar magic to make molten glass. The Superglass Make spell, which requires level 77 Magic, 2 Astral runes, 6 Fire runes and 10 Air runes, can instantly turn your soda ash and bucket of sand into molten glass. It is an instantaneous transformation, but it consumes your buckets. It also works on seaweed saving you even more time because now you do not even have to use the seaweed with a furnace. Wield a staff or either Air or Fire, and withdraw 13 bucket of sand and soda ashes, and you should end up with up to 22 molten glass. This is much quicker than using a furnace, but as mentioned before, you will lose your buckets.

- You can make bullseye lanterns by using the lantern lens with a steel bullseye lantern frame (Level 49 Smithing). Then use your lamp with the lamp oil still in Rimmington, finally use a tinderbox with the lamp. You can make lamp oil by using swamp tar with the lamp oil still in the Chemist's house in Rimmington. You can light the lamps by using a tinderbox on the lamp in inventory.
Battlestaves are an upgraded version of the regular staves that are available in stores. They require high-leveled Magic and Crafting in order to make them. Here are the steps involved, per one unpowered orb:
- Get a glass unpowered orb, 30 elemental runes and 3 cosmic runes
- Go to the obelisk of the element you want.
- Cast your chosen element's orb spell on the orb.
- Buy a battlestaff from the Baba Yaga, Mage Training Arena, or Naff. Use your charged orb with the battlestaff.
- Thormac the Sorcerer can turn your battlestaff into a mystic staff so that it is more powerful for 40,000gp.

There are other random objects and items you can make through Crafting. All of them are listed in the table and some of them are described below for more information on how to obtain the required items:
- When you kill a Mort Myre Snail in the Mort Myre swamp they will drop a shell. If you use a chisel on the shell, you will be able to make a snelm, which gives Crafting experience. You can wear these snelms on your head and come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on the Snail it came from.
- The Shades of Mort'ton quest brought limestone brick Crafting. You would mine limestone from rocks located near the temple leading to Mort'ton, then use a chisel on the limestone to get a limestone brick. There are also some limestone rocks in Tirannwn.
- When you kill a Broodoo Victim in the Tai Bwo Wannai area, he will drop a mask, which you can turn into a broodoo shield.
- The feather headdress is an item used in Summoning, to store 15 Summoning scrolls which can then be used whenever the appropriate familiar has been summoned.
- The crab claw is an item worm in the gloves slot. To acquire this item, a player must kill crabs. They are found only in an undersea crab pen located in a Mogre Camp off of Port Khazard and the Dragontooth Shipwreck off the coast of Dragontooth Island.
- The crab helmet is found the same way as the crab claw.
- The rabbit's foot can be obtained through the Hunter skill by snaring the rabbit at level 27 hunting. Using the rabbit's foot with the ball of wool, you will make a strung rabbit's foot.
- When you kill a yak on Neitiznot Island, it will drop some yak-hide. You use this yak-hide to craft the yak-hide legs and yak-hide body.
- Upon completion of the Enlightened Journey, you can make origami balloons for the sake of it. They can be fun to mess around with.
- In order to construct a slayer helmet, you must have 35 slayer as well as the reward to learn the technique of making them from the slayer points. All of the items can be obtained from any slayer master; however, the black mask will have to be bought from grand exchange, or dropped from a Cave Horror.
- In order to make these, you will need two dark kebbit furs and 600gp, then you need to go to the fancy clothes store in Varrock. The gloves of silence will greatly increase your chance of success of pickpocketing, however they may degrade rather quickly and will need to be replaced. If you wish to wear your gloves of silence, you will need to have level 54 hunter.

Crafting also contains various activities and extras, including it's own guild.
The Crafting Guild is a location to reward characters who have achieved level 40 Crafting. Inside the guild are 7 gold, 6 silver, and 6 clay rocks. There are several moulds and Crafting tool spawns as well. On the second floor is also a tanner and spinning wheel. In addition, there is a pottery wheel and pottery oven along with a jug and sink so you can sit in there all day making pottery! For those who have completed the Shades of Mort'ton, there is the option of fashioning limestone bricks from limestone. It is then possible to use the limestone bricks in order to help rebuild the Temple of Mort'ton, which will earn you another 5 Crafting experience points for every brick you lay.
There are a couple different ways of reaching the temple. Both routes are accessed through Canifis. From canifis, you can either take the path through the swamp or the path through the shortcut underground behind the canifis pub. By going through the swamp, it is the longer route, but you do not need to complete any quests to access this area. By going through the shortcut behind the pub, you need to complete the In Search of the Myreque quest. This quest requires the Nature Spirit quest and level 25 agility. The general store in Mort'ton requires you to bring and use Serum 207 or Serum 208 on the store owner to access the materials for the temple building. The Serum 207 gives access for only a few minutes, while Serum 208 gives access permanently.
You can earn extra Crafting experience by using the Flamtaer Hammer shown below:

Barbarian pyreship making is part of the Barbarian training that starts by talking to Otto Godblessed who is south-west of Barbarian Outpost. A player must have a firemaking level of at least 35 in order to burn the oak log that is required for the firemaking portion of Barbarian training.
In order to participate in pyreship making, you need to obtain chewed bones or mangled bones. These bones can be dropped from a Brutal Green Dragon or a Mithril Dragon. You will also need a tinderbox or bow, any type of hatchet, and the best log that you can burn and craft.
Use the required items on one of the spaces (pyre site) just north of Otto's Grotto to make a pyreship. Burning a pyreship will grant the player a prayer bonus of up to 300% the next time the player buries bones; however, depending on the type of logs used, you can bury more than one bone and receive the bonus experience.
The following chart shows you the firemaking and crafting levels required to create and burn a pyreship, defined by the type of logs:

This section outlines what to craft as you level and your options.
Start by Crafting leather gloves, boots, cowls, and so on. Although its requirements are very low, it gives very fast experience. Since you have not met the requirements to enter the Crafting Guild, you cannot enjoy the equipment located in the guild. Start by going to a cow field (Located at Lumbridge or beside Crafting Guild) and start killing cows, which drop cowhides. Collect roughly 200 hides by banking them once your inventory is full. Head to Al Kharid so you can tan your hides and start Crafting your gloves, boots, etc. Experiments have proven that no other way is better than Crafting leather gloves at level 1. When you've achieved level 7, start Crafting leather boots. When you've achieved level 9, start Crafting level leather cowls, and so on.
Another option is to craft urns. This doesn't require much work. You can either mine the clay, which requires level 1 Mining, or buy the clay from the grand exchange. By turning it into soft clay, you can produce urns by using 2 soft clay on a pottery wheel. After that, fire it in the oven and receive a decent amount of experience as well as possible profit by selling them. The best way to shape and fire your urns would be in Draynor Village because the bank isn't that far away.
Another option is to craft gold rings. By collecting the ore through Mining, you can gain a good amount of experience, including a decent amount of profit. The best place for F2P is located in Al Kharid furnace; the bank isn't that far away. All you need is a ring mould and your gold ore (or bar, depending if you have the smithing level to smelt the gold ore). You use the gold ore or bar on the furance and create your rings. You can also create bracelets and amulets as well.
You can now craft holy symbols. Many top crafters still use this method to craft, as it is cheap and easily accessible. Start by Mining silver over at Southwest Varrock Mine. Since silver is easy to mine, for low-level crafters, holy symbols are the best way for you to advance with until you can make tiaras at level 23 Crafting. The closest furnace to a bank would be the furnace located at Al Kharid; it is only a few steps away from the bank.
Once you reach level 20, you can start cutting sapphire gems. This is one of the fastest experience methods to train Crafting. There is a "Cut-X" option, which makes cutting gems very fast per inventory. However, the only problem with this method is that you must have a lot of money to spend as it can get very expensive if you decide to cut gems for a long time to gain levels.
You can also continue to make urns for the experience and possible profit, as stated above.
You can also continue to make gold rings, bracelets, or amulets as stated above.
Non-Members should craft hard leather bodies once they reach level 28 Crafting. Since your Crafting level is still quite low, hard leather bodies are more effective since you do not need many cow hides to advance to higher levels. If you do not mind buying cow hides, which costs around 200gp each, buy around 2,600 cow hides, which will help you level up till 50 Crafting. If you do not wish to spend money, another alternative way is to stick with Crafting tiaras and mine the silver by yourself. Experiments have proven that Crafting hard leather bodies is almost twice as fast than Crafting tiaras.
You can also continue to make urns for the experience and possible profit, as stated above in the 'level 1-16' section. But now, by having access to the Crafting guild, you can make urns for free. There is clay to mine, buckets and water to use on the clay to make soft clay, then a pottery wheel and a furance so you can shape and fire your urn. This is a very cost-effective way in gaining Crafting experience because you don't have to worry about spending the money on supplies.
Another option to add onto your gold jewellery Crafting is gem rings. You can take gems such as sapphire and emeralds with you to the furance along with your gold bars, and create emerald or sapphire rings. This amounts to decent experience and quite fast; however, you will lose some money this way.
You can also continue to cut gems, as spoken in the 'level 16-28' section. You do have access to higher gems now as well, which costs even more money per experience gained.
Since you will need too many hides just to level up Crafting now, Crafting tiaras is the most effective way. Especially because of the fact that you can now enter the Crafting Guild (level 40 required), which is the fastest place to mine silver; you will be able to obtain silver more efficiently. However, you can still continue with either Crafting hard leather bodies if you don't mind the time and effort.
You can continue to produce urns via the Crafting guild (stated above) or by buying them off the GE and producing them yourself in Draynor Village (as stated in the 'level 1-16' section).
You can also continue to make jewellery for decent experience, as stated in the above section ('level 28-50'). Along with the method of cutting gems ('level 16-28' section').
To reach level 99, your best option is to mine silver and craft tiaras. If you do not mind wasting money, buy silver ore and smelt them into bars before making them into tiaras. Another option would be stick with hard leather bodies while buying the cow hides/hard leather from other people.
You can also continue to produce the best urns possible for good experience, or you can continue to make high level jewellery if you can spend the money on the gems (look in the above sections). Or you can also continue to cut gems for the best experience.
Back to Table of ContentsSimilar to above. Once you are Level 10 Crafting, though, flax is the fastest and cheapest way to level up your Crafting. The nearest flax plant to a bank is over at Lletya; there is a field of flax just outside the bank. There is a flax plant just outside the bank, never was picking flax done with so much speed. After collecting the amount of flax you want, head to Lumbridge and spin your flax on the spinning wheel located on the second floor of Lumbridge Castle. A bank is located on the top floor of the castle, so this would be the quickest method for spinning. Unlike flax, silver Crafting requires a lot of time spent Miningsilver. Experiments have proven flax Crafting is faster than silver Crafting. Also, because bow strings sell for around double the price of flax, it is a great money maker for crafters.
Same as for free to play, you can create urns at these low levels. This doesn't require much work. You can either mine the clay, which requires level 1Mining, or buy the clay from the grand exchange. Another place would be located at Sophanem after completing the Icthlarin's Little Helper quest as well as the Contact! quest to access the bank. There are also several water sources nearby, so if you wish you can bring one bucket and the rest of your inventory filled with clay ore. Stop by the water source on your way to the pottery whell and turn your clay ore into soft clay. This can be beneficial if you wish to use/buy clay ore instead of buying soft clay.
Continue with flax spinning, described above; or continue to craft urns.
Stick with spinning flax as they still give very fast experience. If you wish to stop spinning flax you may try you hand at spinning yak hair. Although it gives you more experience you may find a hard time buying it. Also, making silver items at the furnace in Port Phasmatys or Fremennik Isles can prove to be rather fast experience.
You can also pick up some of the above free-to-play methods here as well. Crafting gem rings and enchanting them, will produce hefty Crafting experience.
Stick with either flax or start Crafting unpowered orbs over at Entrana and banking them if you plan to craft battlestaves in the future, or go for bullseye lantern lenses for the highest glass Crafting xp. Because, at level 50 Crafting, you will need to spin almost 1,000 flax just to level up. By banking the orbs, when you reach the required Crafting level to craft battlestaves, you will have the orbs to make it.
For orb Crafting, it is best that you bank the unpowered orbs, as they will be extremely useful when you can craft battlestaves. Here is one of the best ways to craft orbs:
- Collect seaweed in Shilo Village, or Entrana until you have your desired amount.
- Cook all your seaweed on the stove in Zanaris.
- Withdraw 14 piles of soda ash and 14 buckets.
- Walk over to the sand pit and fill the buckets with sand.
- Walk to the furnace and make the molten glass.
- Repeated steps 3-6 until all the soda ash becomes molten glass.
- At any bank, withdraw a blowing pipe and 27 pieces of molten glass and shape them into orbs.
If you are interested on power Crafting with orbs, Entrana is the place for you as the sandpit, furnace, range and seaweed spawn are all very close together. Simply drop the orbs you make and repeat the process.
You can also continue to produce urns if you wish to take a longer route. By using the same methods as free-to-play, you can create urns pretty fast and inexpensively. The benefit of being pay-to-play, you can create higher leveled urns that give better experience than free-to-play urns.
Again, you can keep Crafting silver and gold jewellery as well. By creating emerald and ruby rings, you can still gain decent amounts of Crafting experience.
This is where the fun starts to come in. You can now craft full green dragonhide leather. Although the exp rewarded is 2 times faster than Crafting battlestaves, the time spent collecting dragon hides unbalances its overall experience rating. To collect a full load of dragon hide takes anywhere from 8-25 minutes, while getting a full load of orbs charged would only take 3-5 minutes maximum. If you have a low combat level and don't mind spending money buying dragon hides from other players, Crafting dragonhide armour is the best and fastest way to go. If not, the most economical way is Crafting battlestaves.
If you want to continue to craft battlestaffs by charging orbs, air orbs/battlestaffs are your best bet. It's approximately 80,000 battlestaffs for 99 Crafting from level 80 Crafting. The only downside is battlestaffs can no longer be bought directly in shops. There is a limited daily supply of battlestaffs by talking to Naff or the Baba Yaga, or by using pizazz points in the Mage Training Arena. You can, however, buy them from the grand exchange, but with JaGex's limitation, you can only buy 100 per 4 hours. If you wish to collect amounts of battlestaffs, you must have other players buy them from the grand exchange and sell them to you.
All the other options are up to you. You can create gold and silver jewellery or even continue to make urns.
