The Rogue's den is a mini game for people with at least 50 Agility and Thieving. It involves making your way through a big, challenging maze, bending yourself into some rather odd positions, and solving a few puzzles along the way.
The Rogue's den is located south of Burthorpe, in Taverly. The easiest way to get there is by teleporting to Falador and walking southwest to find a level 5 agility shortcut. From there, walk north to the Taverly Dungeon, then cross the wooden bridge westbound. The Rogues' Den is just north. Once inside you'll find yourself in a fairly large room with some Wall Safes, some NPCs and a few eternal fires.
|Brian O'Richard||Master of the Maze. He is the person you need to talk to in order to start the Maze.|
|Emerald Benedict||Banker. His bank is very useful for the various quests in the area, and is also very close to the Heroes' Guild. This makes it the perfect place to withdraw then charge your Amulets of Glory, and a good place for banking when training on the Blue Dragon in the Heroes' Guild.|
|Martin Thwait||Runs the Martin Thwait's Lost and Found store and sells some interesting items at a low price. In order to trade with Martin though your Agility and Thieving levels must be at least 50.|
In the middle of the entrance area, you will find a big wall that has four safes on its sides. For those players with level 50 thieving or higher, you can have a go at cracking a safe. If you fail to crack a safe, you will set off some floor traps, and will be dealt a bit of damage. Martin Thwait sells a Stethoscope which can be used with the wall safe to reduce your chance of failing, and consequently setting off the trap. If you successfully crack the safe, you will receive some type of uncut gem (excl red topaz, jade, opal, dragonstone, onyx), some coins and 70 thieving XP.
To begin the Rogue's Den Maze you need to speak to Brian O'Richard and tell him you want to give the Maze a try. After a short conversation with him you should receive the Mystic jewel . This jewel is used to escape the Maze incase you need to (just give it a rub and you'll be teleported out). Before you start the Maze you'll need to deposit everything on you (except the jewel). Once you are ready to begin walk north and through the grate door.
Now that you're inside of the Maze you'll need to keep an eye out for all kinds of traps and obstacles. The most used kind of trap in the Maze are the floor traps (which is the first thing you'll need to get by). Below is a chart with all the kinds of traps and obstacles you'll face inside of the Maze.
|Contortion Bars||Simply click on this obstacle to navigate your way though it.|
|Spinning Blade||These are more of an annoyance more than an actual trap. If you get too close to one of these you'll be hit and be teleported out of the Maze, so be careful. The best tactic is just to keep your distance.|
|Spin Blades||These are a small pillar with blades on them. They are only found on one part of the Maze. To get by them you'll need to hide in the small crevices found along the walls in "the square". Once the Spin Blade goes by, run ahead and hide in the next spot.|
|Bridge||Just click on the Bridge and your character will cross it like a normal Bridge (or Log).|
|Mosaic Door||These are the two "puzzle doors" located within the Maze. To go through, simply pick up the correct tile (Picture) and then click on the door. A small screen will popup and you then have to choose the correct tile from the options (Picture). If you only have the one tile it will be the only one on the screen, making it easy to pick.|
|Floor Traps||These are the most common traps and are all over the place. Just right-click on them and select "Disable Trap". Your character will then walk on top of the trap and it will be disarmed. Once you move though it will reset (so if you step on it again you'll be hit). There are three different types of floor traps and they are pretty tricky to see, so make sure to keep an eye out for them.|
|Ledge||This is another simple Agility obstacle. Just click on the Ledge and your character will cross it.|
|Pendulum||Pendulums are another obstacle to get past. Just click on the other side of them and you'll jump though it. You can't fail this or anything, so no need in waiting for the Pendulum to be on a certain side when you attempt to pass it.|
|Floor Saw||A common Agility obstacle. Just click on the other side of them in order to get by them.|
|Rogue Guards||You might encounter a Rogue Guard or two while going through the maze. If you get caught by these guys they'll kick you out of the Maze, so watch out. To get past them simply pick up a bag of Flash Powder (Picture), then right-click and use it on the guards from a distance. Your character will then throw a handful of Powder at them stunning them for a few seconds. Right after you stun then, click on the other side of them to run past them.|
|Wall Trap||These are just like Floor Traps, except you can't see them. Just right-click on the wall and disarm the trap. If you fail to disarm the trap you'll be smashed in between two walls and teleported out of the Maze.|
|Wall Trap 2||Almost the same thing as the Wall Trap, except this one has a small "spear" inside of the wall. If you fail to disarm the trap you'll be stuck with a small spear and teleported out of the Maze.|
- If you have at least 80 thieving you can use special shortcuts in order to get through the maze a bit faster. You will be able to tell the difference between these shortcuts and the other doors because they'll have the option to "Picklock Door" on them. Just pick the lock and go on in.
- I have drawn a route to the end which I believe to be the easiest way to go through the Maze. Just follow the yellow line and you should be able to get through it without any real trouble (Picture).
- You are able to go to a special viewing area above the Maze if you wish to check things out from a different view. Once you go up here though, you can't come back down (can only leave via the jewel). To access the viewing area look for a door with a ladder behind it. Just open the door and go on up the ladder.
- There is a part of the Maze which has a single Chest surrounded by multiple Floor Traps. This Chest holds 10gp and is not worth the time and effort. Just ignore it pretty much.
There are six different items you can obtain at the end of the Maze. You might not get an item every time you go through the Maze, as you randomly get hit by a Floor Trap. So chances are it will take you quite a few tries in order to obtain full Rogues. You can also obtain a Rogue Kit which can be helpful during quests (can be made into a Chisel, Spade, Tinderbox or Rope).
|Rogue Kit||Can be made into a chisel, rope, spade or tinderbox|
Note: The Rogue armour does not give any attack bonuses or subtractions. A full set gives +26 defence bonuses. However, it is practically weightless with the entire set weighing only 2 Kg. It's merely for looks and showing off.
