Mobilising ArmiesEdit This Entity
Mobilising Armies is located directly west of Oo'glog, south of Feldip Hills and the Ogre City (Gu'Tanoth). To get there, you can walk, cast the Mobilising Armies teleport spell (requires 10 Magic), use the Spirit Tree located near the Command Centre, or teleport with a ring of duelling. Speak with Junior Cadet Mal upon entering the area and he'll give you a small tutorial about the game and how everything works.
You can speak to him for extra training after you've finished the mandatory tutorial, but doing so is entirely optional. However, this information will benefit your understanding of the game so it's recommended that you complete it.
Jagex have also recently added two Mobilising Armies themed worlds: One that only requires 4 players to play (World 76) and one that requires only 20 players to play (World 89, 97, 121, and 159). This was implemented because some worlds took a lot longer than others for a game to load.
There are a few things you'll need to do to prepare for the game before you can jump into battle.
In order to obtain the necessary supplies to battle, you need to generate investment points. Investment points are gained by giving items to Junior Cadet Mal. The items that can be traded for investment points are called "commodities". Different items will yield different amounts of investment points. Commodities are items that are generally created while skilling in the game.
To recruit squads for your army, you need to enter the recruitment room. Here there are three desks and at them sits an elven recruiter,a dwarven recruiter, and a goblin recruiter. Each recruiter has the ability to trade you squads of their kind for your investment points.
The squad recruitment interface seen above is the screen from which you obtain your squads. The level option is for those who have held squads long enough for them to level through combat. The higher the level, the more powerful and speedy the squad will be; it will also be more expensive, however.
The class dictates the ratio of speed and power your squad will have. The light class is faster (and better for things like scouting the map with the search command) and less powerful and the heavy class is very slow but much more powerful than the light class.
It is recommended that you recruiting 3 squads of each race with the heavy class and 1 squad of your choice of race with a light class so that it can easily scout the map. Since you can only have a maximum of 10 squads, this makes for the best balanced combat scenario with the combat triangle for this mini game.
When used wisely, special units can be extremely useful in battle. Unfortunately, you may only hold 5 of them at a time, so it's important to choose an effective combination. Below is a list of all of the special units you can receive with your investment points.
All special units, with the exception of the gnome glider, affect you as well as your opponent so be careful where you're using them!
| Image | Name | Effect | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
![]() |
Cannon | Inflicts damage on all squads in the line of fire. You choose where to place the cannon and the direction in which to fire it. | 900 |
![]() |
Gnome Glider | This is a targeted attack that inflicts a relatively large amount of damage to the selected squad. This will not affect any squad except for the target. | 1,000 |
![]() |
Chompa Bomb | This bomb is placed in an area and explodes shortly after, inflicting damage on all surrounding squads. | 1,100 |
![]() |
Distractor | When deployed, it distracts the squads around it from the orders given by their commander. | 1,200 |
![]() |
Barricade | When placed, barricades block squads, including ones commanded by the person who placed it. These are very uneffective, however, as it takes many of them to create a good blockade, which wastes the other special units you could have. | 800 |
The battle phase of the game is where everything comes together. Here's where all the preparation will show. Plenty of strategy is involved, but luck is an important part of battle, too.
Once you have 10 squads, climb down the briefing room entrance. You'll first be asked which scenario you'd like to play with the below interface.
As you play each scenario, the next will unlock until you can access all four scenarios. Once you select a scenario, you'll see an interface like the one below, describing the details of what to do during the game.
Along with viewing the winning conditions, you can also change your starting formation. As you progress through the game, more formations will become unlocked.
The more investment points you contribute, the more reward points you will receive if you win. Though you still receive reward points upon a loss, contributed investment points will not earn you a bonus and you will lose them.
Below are all the tabs in the Mobilising Armies mini game and all of the controls with details about what they do.
![]() |
Camera:Use the arrow keys to move around the map. Hold CTRL and use the arrow keys to change the camera angle. Hold SHIFT and use the up and down keys to zoom in and out. |
Squad Commands:The top three images show details about the selected squad: the class, race, and status (mobile or stationary). The bottom three images allow you to attack with, move, or explore with the selected sqaud. You can either select a squad, click attack, and click the squad you want to attack, or just click the squad you want to attack with, and then the squad you want to attack. |

Special Units:For Gnome gliders, click the gilder icon, then the squad onto which you wish to inflict damage. For the other special units, just click the unit you want to deploy and click inside the game window to set where it should be deployed. |
My Squads:This tab shows all of your squads and their level. It also shows which squads have been destroyed. You can easily select and focus the camera on one of your squads by clicking the hand beside the squad in this tab. |

Forfeit:Use this to quit the game. However, it's recommended that you just wait out the game until death because you will lose all squads and special units. |
Without a good strategy, it hard to beat this mini game with 3 opponents attempting to conquer you. There are a few effective ways to approach the various game scenarios listed below.
Unlike other the scenarios, this scenario is against 1 opponent. One of the only effective strategies is to be Aggressive, where you unleash your fury on your opponent! You should have 3 heavy squads of each race and one light race. Using the combat triangle of Mobilising Armies (recognizing that Dwarves can most easily defeat Goblins, Goblins can most easily defeat Elves, and Elves can most easily defeat Dwarves), use all of your squads of a certain type to attack one squad of the race that it's easiest for your squad to defeat. Once that squad has been destroyed, take the next. It's important to remember that Chompa bombs are less desirable with this method and that Gnome gliders will be more effective when singling out opponents. Though this is much harder because you're fighting hand-to-hand, you'll earn many more reward points because you will have defeated a much larger number of squads. Also remember, if you issue less than 10 commands, you get no reward at all. Keep that in mind.
When battling opposing squads, keep an eye out for Special Terrain areas. Squads who fight while standing on these spots receive a bonus in battle, so try to keep your units on them and try to lure your opponents' units off of them.
The point of the Siege Scenario is quite different from the Conflict Scenario. While you can win by killing all of your opponents' squads, the main goal is to break into the castle at the center of the map. The best way to win at this map is to quickly build a Catapult. Have a team mostly composed of light units, and have them gather one of each of the four supplies required to make a catapult (wood, wheels, limbs, and rope). Once your catapult is built, have your units continuously gather rocks from a nearby pile to fuel your catapult. You can also have some heavy units to attack your opponents' catapults or to attack the castle wall itself.
If you prefer the Combat tactic, have a team made of heavy units. Most should attack the castle wall, while some have the option of attacking your opponents' catapults to slow them down as well. Be careful, though, as there are powerful mages on the castle who attack all units trying to destroy the castle.
You can win the Hoard Scenario be either collecting 100,000 coins from the various caves or by killing all of your opponents. One option is to focus on the Collecting portion of the game. Your party should consist of about half light units, for collecting, and half heavy units, for both collecting and attacking those that attack your squads. The caves will run out of gold after a few minutes, so switching among the four caves is required, but they will respawn after some time. Be aware that if a squad that was collecting gold in your party dies, you will lose gold, and that if you kill another team's collecting squad, you will gain gold. The Disctractor special item can be very useful as it stops enemy squads from collecting gold temporarily.
You can also focus on Attacking enemy units to gain some gold that they have collected. If you plan on doing this, your team should be composed mainly of heavy units. As with the Conflict Scenario, keep the Combat triangle (Dwarves can most easily defeat Goblins, Goblins can most easily defeat Elves, and Elves can most easily defeat Dwarves) in mind. Squads who are collecting are more susceptible to being hit, so they are good targets. Special items such as Chompa bombs, cannons, and Gnome gliders are recommended as well.
The purpose of the Rescue Scenario is to be the first save 28 TzHaar from the firey cracks around the center of the island. One way to do this is to focus on Rescuing them from the cracks. A team mostly comprised of light units would be best as they move much faster than heavy units. A few heavy units may be useful to defend against enemy attacks as well. Another option is to focus on Attacking enemy rescuers to take their TzHaar. You should have a mix of light and heavy units for this. One problem with this method is that most rescuers will be light units, so your powerful heavy units will not be able to catch up. Special items like Gnome gliders and Chompa bombs are recommended.
Regardless of what strategy you use, you should also consider Stealing units from your enemies' boats. Light units are great for this task, as they can quickly move in, steal a TzHaar, and quickly return it to your boat before taking much damage from heavy units. Combining stealing TzHaar with recuing them and killing enemy squads is a surefire method to win this scenario.
As you play Mobilising Armies, you earn ranks and reward points. These reward points can be used to enchant your rings to have better combat stats, buy outfits, buy special rewards and buy Locators and Quest Kits, that aid in your Runescape adventure. You can sell back your reward outfit items back for 100% of the reward credits.
At rank 0 or higher you can purchase Serjeant clothing. At rank 100 or higher you can purchase Commander clothing. At rank 200 or higher you can purchase War-Chief clothing. At rank 300 or higher you can purchase Lord Marshal clothing.
Depending on rank, you can trade reward points for resources that have supposedly been plundered from the scenario. As you make your way up the officers' tower, the rewards get better, but the cost in reward points becomes higher as well.
These items are obtained by talking to the respective ranked person and trade some of your reward points. These are unique items for use throughout Runescape. Note: All locators start with 50 charges. When the locator runs out of charges it can be recharged by playing a game of Mobilising armies. Quest kits are also replenished with a game.

A: No, this is a safe mini game. If your squads die, though, you will have to pay 500 credits to resupply them.
A: By visiting the rewards NPC, Serjent Cole, in the building to the east of the game entrance.
A:No, when Mobilising Armies first came out, at Rank 400 you had access to level 5 Squads. Since the update on 18th August 2009, this no longer applies since Squad levels were taken out.
