If you're attacking from a distance using magic or range, the soldier will Range you. If you melee it, it will melee you. Fighting this monster with a rune crossbow (or any range attack) is very effective. They are also good for collecting Mithril and Adamant ores, and have a very good drop rate for charms, especially crimson charms. This is one of the best monsters to kill in F2P for experience and profit.
