The Bulwark beast is a behemoth who is heavily armoured, and he is located in a blank room. His armour can only be broken by a pickaxe.

He can drop any pickaxe or hatchet from Novite to Primal.

Tactics

Before fighting this boss, make sure you have a good pickaxe with you. Start the fight wielding the pickaxe in the Crush attack style to break through the beast's armour. A gauge at the top of the screen shows how much of the beast's armour is left. Once it's broken, you may switch to other weapons. Protect from Magic and you should be fine, assuming you have decent armour. Crush attacks deal the most damage. Using magical attacks seem to be the best way to approach the Bulwark Beast, as he is extremely weak to magic attacks. Using magic attacks his armour does not need to be broken using a pickaxe.
