Use your Slayer skills to battle out of control vegetation with an attitude, cultivate your wits and stretch your Agility to solve a cunning maze - all to make a gardener's day. Do you have what it takes to cut this quest down to size?

Part 1:
The Cutting

Step 1
Talk to Horacio.
Speak to Wizard Cromperty and agree to help him.
Speak to workers at the R.P.D.T. depot.
Open the box and tell the workers the smell has gone.

Speak to Horacio, who is in the garden of large house at the centre of East Ardougne. Ask him if there is anything he needs help with and then agree to help him install a new garden feature for him - the rare Jade Vine. Horacio will send you to Wizard Cromperty as he can supply a means for you to transport the vine seed back from Karamja.

Speak to Cromperty about Back to my Roots quest and after some persuasion, he will agree to give you a magic transportation device, but he requires that you retrieve him package from the R.P.D.T. depot. The depot is south of the southern Ardougne bank, near the docks. Speak to one of the workers there and ask about Cromperty's delivery. They will explain to you that they can't deliver anything as a box is giving off a terrible stench. Open the box for them and you will find a wizard's severed arm (from the same corpse in The Hand In The Sand quest). Tell the workers that the cause of the smell is dealt with.

Step 2
Speak to Cromperty.
Agree to make him a new pot lid.
Head to the pottery wheel in north-west Ardougne
Craft a new pot lid.
Speak to Cromperty.

Items needed: Soft Clay, Pot.

Go back and speak to Cromperty, he will say that he needs a brand new "magical" device for transporting the seed since it has been broken. It will become evident that the case is in fact a pot with a pot lid. Agree to make him a new one.

Note: The pot lid must be made after he has asked you to make one, offering him a premade one will not suffice as the pottery shrinks.

Walk west, and go into the western side of East Ardougne (over the bridge). Up river, and parallel to the bank on the other side of the river you should see a pottery wheel and clay oven. You can reach the area faster by heading to the north bank and using the agility shortcut over the river (level 33 Agility). Use soft clay with a pottery to make a pot lid, and then heat it in the pottery oven. Return to Cromperty with a pot and pot lid, speak to him. He relays a message from Horacio for you to go speak to Garth the farming patch farmer in Brimhaven about the Jade Vine.

Step 3
Head to Brimhaven.
Speak to Garth.
Take the cart to Shilo Village.
Head to the maze entrance.
Follow the directions in the maze, and then pot up a root.
Teleport to Ardougne with the airtight pot.

Items needed: ~100GP, 3-4 Anti-Poison Potions, Armour, Machete, Spade, Secateurs, Food, Plant Pot (with Soil), regular pot.

Take the boat to Karamja from Ardougne (requires 30gp unless you use a ring of charos (a)). Slightly south from the docks in Brimhaven, Garth will be standing next to the fruit tree farming patch. Talk to him about the quest and then take the cart to Shilo Village.

At Shilo, leave the village and then run along the fence west, go over the bridge and then run east. Just past the nature altar you will come to a vine. Be careful from here on, as although monsters in the maze are mostly weak, they have strong poison.

Climb up the vine you can see, and follow these directions in the maze:
1: Go east, climb up, run over the vine and climb down, climb down the vine to the ground, cut the vines in the arch and crawl through, squeeze through the next set of vines, go up the vines leading up to the eagle's nest...
2: Run past the eagle and climb down the eastern vine, above you should see a hanging vine, swing across the gap on it, run north on the vine you are on, climb down, go down the vine on the ground, cut the hanging vines and crawl through, squeeze through the next set of vines, climb up the available vine until you can see vines going over the river...
3: Cross the vine, go down, go down the vine to the ground, cut through and crawl under more vines, go up the vine on the ground, go around the corner and go up, go down, go up the other vine going over the river, cross it, go around the bend leading back, go down, go down the vine to the ground.
If you fall in the maze, go down one of the holes. The tunnels take you to a random place in the maze, keeping taking them until you arrive at a destination you can recognize and climb out of.

At the base of the tree, you will see several mounds. Clear the earth off them and then cut off the root closest to the tree. Use the root with a plant pot. Wait a few seconds to check if the root survives, if it dies simply cut a new one. As soon as you receive a message saying the cutting has rooted, use your pot on the plant pot it is planted in so that it is protected. Head back to Ardougne.

Part 2:
Growing the Vine

Step 4
Speak to Horacio.
Plant the vine.
Slay the wild vine and speak to Horacio.

Zybez RuneScape Help's Picture of Fighting the VineItems needed: Armour, Anti-Poison Potion, Woodcutting Hatchet, Secateurs, Gardening trowel, Food, perhaps Combat Potions.

Head to a bank and withdraw a Gardening trowel, as well as any other equipment needed to fight with (you can only fight with a woodcutting hatchet, so don't bring another weapon.) Speak to Horacio and he will now ask you to plant the vine as well because he's incompetent. Use the airtight container on the preprepared patch he has for the plant. The vine will grow quickly in a cutscene and attack you both. The Wild Vine (Level-167) attacks with Magic and melee attacks, it's best to use the protect from magic Prayer as it deals higher damage. The vine can poison you so be careful to watch your health and drink antipoison. Once the vine is cut back to a defenceless stump finish it off by cutting it with secateurs. When the vine is dead speak to Horacio to complete you quest.

Note: After the quest if you go back the maze and slay the creatures there, you can recieve more body parts of the wizard. Taking these to the Wizards' Guild and completing the mini-quest will reward you with 10,000 Magic experience, 100 Law runes and 200 Blood runes. See the guide below.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I get experience from the Jade vine?

A: After planting the vine it will take between about 20-48 hours to mature (34 Avg.), checking the plant when it has reached adult status will give you 1500 Farming experience. The vine then, if not cut back now and again, will turn wild as during the quest. Killing it (must use woodcutting hatchet and have secateurs in inventory) will give you 2500 Slayer experience and an amount of Woodcutting experience equal to the damage you deal. When the vine is killed in a wild form it will drop a seed, so you can repeat the process every other day or so.

Wizard's Burial Mini-Quest

Introduction

Clarence, an upcoming wizard of Wizards' Guild was murdered just prior to the events in The Hand In The Sand quest. All that was found of the wizard then was a hand and later his severed head. Zavistic Rarve was upset that he may not ever recover the rest of his colleague's body. Fortunately however, or rather unfortunately depending on how you look at it, you discover the other hand of Clarence inside a package during Back to My Roots quest at the R.P.D.T. depot in east Ardougne. Perhaps if you explore the maze involved in the quest and slay the creatures there, you will stumble upon more of this unfortunate man?
Zavistic Rarve will be most grateful if you do.

Retrieval and Burial

Step 1
Head to the Jade Vine Maze.
Slay the creatures there.
Collect all body parts.

The body parts of Clarence are all dropped by most of the monsters inside of the Jade Vine Maze. The fastest way of getting there is by taking a cart, or teleporting with Karamja Gloves 3 to Shilo Village. Once at Shilo, leave the village and then run along the fence west, go over the bridge and then run east. Just past the nature altar you will come to a vine, which if you climb up will take you into the maze.

To kill the monsters in the maze you must bring this equipment:
A fast weapon: Killing the creatures fast enough can stop you being poisoned.
Several antipoisons: Nearly all monsters in the maze can poison you with strong effect.
High healing food: Most monsters have high attack, and hit often.
A Machete: To progress deeper into the maze where there are more beasts to slay.
A fast teleport out (ectophial, teleport tablet): in case you are poisoned without any antidote left, the maze will take too long to escape on foot.

The best monsters to focus on in the maze are the frogs, ants, and spiders. Try to avoid killing many giant wasps as they poison you the most. The body parts you need are the Torso, Left Leg, Right Leg, Right Arm, Left Arm, and a Foot. You should already have the hand from Back to My Roots quest when you opened the smelly package. The limbs and torso do not always drop, be patient and persist killing them until you have them all.Zybez RuneScape Help's image of handing over the torso

Step 2
Ring the bell at the Wizard's Guild.
Bank valuables, and accept the teleport.
Search the desk.
Unlock the book and read it.
Speak with Zarvistic.

Once you have all the body sections, head to the Wizards' Guild and ring the bell outside. Zarvistic Rarve should appear, choose the option, "I have a rather sandy problem that I'd like to palm off on you," whilst holding the body parts. He will take them gratefully but will ask for more evidence to help put Sandy in prison so that justice is served. Zarvistic will offer to teleport you to the Sand depot in Brimhaven where Sandy worked in an attempt to find proof. Say yes, but if you have any expensive items and anything you are afraid to lose, go to a bank first and deposit them (speak with him again to be teleported).Zybez's image of Clarence's burial

In Brimhaven, search the desk in and you should receive a Locked Diary. Be careful before choosing to open it, as it can seriously hurt you if you fail (lowers your health to 5 regardless of level). After unlocking the book read through it, then head back to the Wizards' Guild so that you can show it to Zarvistic.

Upon giving it to Zarvistic a cutscene will begin, Clarence's fellow wizards shall say goodbye at last, one commenting that it's sad you could not find the other foot since now Clarence is "one foot in the grave." Zarvistic will thank you and reward you with 10,000 Magic Experience, 100 Law runes and 200 Blood runes. A gravestone for Clarence's resting place will now be behind the guild.
