There are tales of evil beings leading zombie armies in the past, and when they have, the city of Varrock has come under great peril, only standing firm through the brave resolve of the people and heroes of the city. This could become much more than a simple scouting mission.

Part 1:
Mysterious Zombie Army

Step 1
Speak to Captain Rovin.
Head to the Graveyard of Shadows.
Track the zombie footprints.
Head into the zombie hideout.

Zybez RuneScape Help's Image Of TracksNote: You cannot have a summoning familiar out at this point or Hartwin will not follow you.

Speak to Captain Rovin on the 3rd floor of the north-western tower in Varrock Castle. After starting the quest, you and Hartwin will need to investigate the Graveyard of Shadows, which is located east of the Wilderness Volcano. Hartwin will follow you into the Wilderness. Once you are at the graveyard, talk to Hartwin and you will discover that the zombie army has moved and that you will need to track them. Follow the zombie tracks that Hartwin discovers. To do so you will need to investigate objects near where your current zombie tracks end to uncover more tracks. Whilst investigating the objects near a group of trees (Picture), you should come across a Grubby key; you will need this shortly. Eventually, you should find yourself at the Chaos Temple, which is the location of the zombie hideout (Picture).

Step 2
Watch over the balcony.
Kill zombies for red mist.
Speak to Arrav.
Uncover who's responsible for the zombies.

Items needed: Armour, Weapon, Food

Zybez RuneScape Help's Image Of MistUnlock the trapdoor with the Grubby Key; Although it will unlock, the key will become stuck. Climb down and walk straight down the corridor until you get to the end. You should see a balcony to look over. You will see a short cut-scene which will reveal the evil plans (Picture). Progress through the tunnel and you should find some bottles on the floor; you will need to collect three. You will need to kill three Armoured zombie (Level-85). After each kill, you will see red mist appear where you killed them. You will need to use your bottles on the red mist to collect it. Once you have three bottles of red mist, you can progress further through the tunnel.

You will see a cut-scene of Arrav who will speak to you (Picture). During this time, your bottles of red mist will empty. You will need to kill another three Armoured zombie (Level-85) and collect the red mist. Again, you will be able to progress through the tunnel, where you should see another balcony where you will be able to view another cut-scene (Picture). Use the Varrock teleport tablet that Hartwin gives you to teleport out of the dungeon.

Go up to the north-western tower and speak with Captain Rovin. He will say that the only way to stop the undead army is to unlock the power of the Shield of Arrav. However, he says that only an Imcando dwarf would have that knowledge. Well, it looks like we're off to see Thurgo. Before leaving, though, make sure you have a pickaxe.

Part 2:
Shield of Arrav

Step 3
Speak with Thurgo.
Obtain blurite ore.
Enter the cave on Ice Mountain.
Speak with the dwarf sage.

Items needed: Spade, Pickaxe, Light source, Blurite Ore

Go to Port Sarim and head south. Continue on until you reach the shoreline. Speak to Thurgo who is standing outside a shack nearby. Ask him about the Shield of Arrav and he will tell you that he remembers there being a furnace where many dwarf sages went for information. He mentions that it was somewhere on Ice Mountain and then hands you a scroll with coordinates on it (Picture). Now before you leave head down the trapdoor on top of the mountain to the east of Thurgo. Make your way through the cavern until you arrive at a room covered in ice. Mine one of the blurite ore nearby. (Ice Caves)Zybez RuneScape Help's Image Of Dwarf Sage

Teleport to Falador and make sure you have a spade, pickaxe, and light source in your inventory. Head north and head up onto Ice Mountain. Make your way to the top of the mountain and dig near the ridge of the mountain (Picture). Once you uncover the hole, use your pickaxe on it to make it bigger. Climb down the hole and head south. Speak to the dwarf sage and he will say that you will need to place a blurite ore inside the furnace. Do so and the dwarf will stoke the furnace. You will now be gazing inside the furnace where you will see various images (Picture). The images will tell you that only a descendant of Arrav can use the power of the shield. The dream images will be interrupted with an image of Zemouregal telling you that he is attacking Varrock.

Part 3:
Zombie Assault

Step 4
Compare with the census.
Locate the descendant.
Return the shield to Dimintheis.

Head to the Varrock Castle and a cut scene will ensue. Zombies have overrun the castle and everything is in chaos.Zybez RuneScape Help's Image Of Zombie Head up to the north-western tower and speak to Captain Rovin. He will explain that you can find a census in the library that tells of everyone's name and job. Head down to the library and speak with Reldo. He will say that a note explaining people who may have had a lineage with Arrav can be found somewhere in the library. Search the pile of scrolls on the floor that's near the knocked-over desk (Picture). Now what you need to do is compare that paper with the census. Use a last name from the piece of paper and hook it up with the last name on the census. Then use the first name you find there to find an NPC who may be a descendant. Once you do that, speak to that person. A list of possible descendants can be found below:

Romeo (near the marketplace fountain).

Juliet (in the manor just west of the western bank).

King Roald (in the palace).

Sir Prysin (small room just west of the door in the palace).

Draul Leptoc (in the manor just west of the western bank).

Curator Haig Halen (in Varrock Museum).

Royal Advisor (in the the palace).

Horvik the blacksmith (in the smithing store, near to the eastern bank).

Once you have found the correct person they will explain that they aren't truly related. One of their descendants was actually adopted. They will give you a last name which you need to match up with the census. This name will match up to Diminthesis, the man you helped out during the Family Crest quest.

Go to the south-eastern part of Varrock and speak to Diminthesis who can be found near the fancy dress store (Picture). Give him the shield and it will start to light up. A cut scene will then play of him taking out all of the zombies. Once that is complete, head back up the north-western tower and speak to Captain Rovin to complete the quest.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've been told that Juliet is the correct descendant but it's not working. What am I doing wrong?

A: The descendants are completely randomized.

Q: I've been told that I can gain more Smithing experience; is this true?

A: Yes. If you take a Redberry pie to Ramarno, the blind dwarf sage, he will eat it all and in return he will give you 1,000 Smithing experience. This can be done either during the quest, or after.
