While some find their fortunes in forsaken lands battling dangerous monsters, the opportunistic adventurer knows that there is wealth to be had all around: in guarded vaults, trapped safes and the fattened purses of the rich and careless. With naught but a capacious cellar, an extensive vocabulary and a dash of derring-do, rakish confidence trickster Darren Lightfinger hopes to establish an official Lumbridge Thieves’ Guild where all proponents of his time-honoured profession may pursue their various business interests. Darren has sent out feelers for assistance, promising rich rewards to the person who helps him bring his plan to fruition. It's never wise to trust a con-man, but this is too good an opportunity for a resourceful rogue to pass up.

Part 1:
Fundraising

Step 1
Talk to Darren Lightfingers
Pickpocket Dummy
Talk to Darren again.

To start the quest, go down the trapdoor found at the back of the house north of the furnace in Lumbridge (Picture). Talk to Guildmaster Darren Lightfinger, and you will hear his speech about the skills he and his guild have to offer you. You will interrupt him however, and ask why his guild is so run down. Darren admits that the guild has only been running for two weeks, and he needs to raise some funds to fully equip it. He will tell you about a golden chalice, kept in Lumbridge bank's vault, which he wishes for you to 'acquire'.

First, to test your thieving skills, he will ask you to pickpocket the dummy. Pickpocket it to prove your skills to him; if you have under 5 thieving, you will need to continue pickpocketing the dummy until you reach 5 thieving. After you're done, talk to Darren again, and he will let you go on your way to find the chalice. He tells you that Chief Thief Robin will be around to help you with your quest.

Step 2
Talk to Robin
Attempt to pickpocket Father Urhney
Talk to Darren again.

Run south to Lumbridge castle; you will find Robin on the south side of the castle grounds (Picture). Talk to him, and he will tell you that the chalice is no longer in the bank because its owner has taken it out. All he knows about the owner is that he wandered into the Lumbridge Swamp. Head south into the Swamps and slightly west to find Father Urhney in his hut. If you try to pickpocket him, you will fail. In order to distract him, light a fire just outside any of his open windows and then talk to him. Tell him he has a nice chalice and then yell "Fire!" (Picture) He will become distracted, allowing you to pickpocket him (Picture). With the key you receive, open the case and steal the chalice (Picture).

Sub-quest 1:
From Tiny Acorns...

Requirements

Skills: 24 Thieving

Step 1
Talk to Darren Lightfingers
Go to the center of Varrock
Talk to Ulrist
Talk to the Market guard

Even though the quest is complete, it appears that the guild is not fully complete yet due to lack of funding's. Talk to Guildmaster Darren Lightfingers who is in the tunnel north of the furnace in Lumbridge and he will tell you about how he will require your efforts to retrieve funds to furnish the guild... surprisingly by putting your Thieving skills into action.

Your first target is a dwarven craftsman called Urist Loric. Darren has ordered a Toy baby dragon made entirely of ruby from him. The plan is to steal it, accuse him of losing it and claim a refund, and you are told to find him in the center of Varrock where the fountain is. Once you get there, you should notice him standing by a stall with a Toy baby dragon placed on it. Talk to him and ask about how the progress with the toy is faring, then talk to the Market guard (dressed as an ordinary Varrock guard) who is nearby and ask him about Urist.

Step 2
Pick Ulrist's pocket
Drop the talisman
Distract the Market guard
Steal the toy from the stall
Talk to Urist

He will explain that he is obsessed with his Golden talisman and he won't listen about the contents of his stall getting stolen. Pick Urist's pocket to get his talisman, and choose to place it on the floor by clicking on it. Quickly talk to the Market guard and choose to distract him. While Urist is busy picking up his talisman and the guard is busy getting distracted, you may now steal from the stall. Talk to Urist and demand a refund. He will then give you a note.

Go back to Darren with the Toy baby dragon and the note and the sub-quest is complete!

Sub-quest 2:
Lost her Marbles

Requirements

Skills: 41 Thieving

Step 1
Talk to Darren Lightfingers

The guild is now partially completed, but Darren will need your help once again. Talk to him about the second caper, and he will tell you that a sorcerer has been experimenting with solidified elemental fire, but has had an accident and caused it to explode in her laboratory. Pieces of Solid flame fragments were then scattered all around the world and were picked up by people. This time, you are told to pick the pockets of those who he thinks has these fragments in their possession.

There are 32 to find altogether, and up to 6 can be gotten from picking the pockets of: Men, Farmers, Warriors, Guards, H.A.M. members, Master farmers, and Rogues. Firstly, begin pickpocketing Men. You can find a couple of them around Lumbridge. Head north-east of Lumbridge to the farmhouse to find some Farmers, and pick their pockets. Repeat this for the warriors in Al Kharid palace, the guards in Varrock, the Master farmer in Draynor Village, and the H.A.M. members in their hideout west of Lumbridge castle. It is not recommended that you travel deep into the Wilderness to pick the pockets of the Rogues in their castle since it is very dangerous; you will be under threat by the Chaos elemental and any PKers.

Note: Since there are only 32 fragments, you do not have to get every fragment available! Once you get 32, you will stop getting any more completely unless you destroy them.

Once you are done, go back to Darren with the 32 Flame fragments and the sub-quest is complete!

Sub-quest 3:
A Guild of our Own

Requirements

Skills: 62 Thieving, 40 Agility, 46 Herblore

Item: Blackjack (any except rubber blackjack), Lockpick, Clean irit, Vial of water, Knife, Bowl, Onion

Recommendations

Ardougne teleportation runes or teleport tablet

Step 1
Talk to Darren Lightfingers
Talk to Chief Thief Robin about a disguise
Go to the Guild Registry in Ardougne

Darren is excited about the prospect of finally becoming a registered guild, but he needs your help on one final caper. He will ask you to break into the guild registry and steal their money, and then pay the guild registration fee with their own money. He tells you that you will need a blackjack, a lockpick, and some sort of disguise.

Talk to Chief Thief Robin about a disguise. He tells you that he can make you a "stench potion" that will make their eyes water (and unable to identify you as the thief). To make this potion, first make Chopped onion by using your bowl on the onion (with a knife in your inventory). Next, combine the Clean irit and Chopped onion in your vial. Talk to Robin again and he will magically seal the vial so you will not be affected by the stench.

Make your way to the Guild Registry in Ardougne, in the south-east corner by the docks. Enter the guild and talk with the Registrar. After going through the dialogue, pickpocket her to obtain the Cuckoo clock key.

Step 2
Wind the cuckoo clock
Steal the vault key from the guard
Enter the vault room

YOU MUST DO THIS STEP QUICKLY OR IT WILL NOT WORK.

First, go into the next room and wind the clock. Then, hide in the room with the registrar, making sure to keep near the guard. When the registrar goes into the next room to deal with the clock, lure the knight, knock him out, and steal the vault key from him. Once you obtain the key, unlock the vault with the lever behind the Registrar's desk and climb down the trapdoor.

If you don't get it quick enough the first time, keep trying. It is much easier once the timing is down.

Step 3
Open the vault
Bring the bonds to Darren Lightfinger
Register the Thieves' guild with the Registrar

In the vault room, there is a chest on the back wall. Search the chest for traps first, or you will be hit for 320 life points. Open the chest and obtain the bonds. To escape the vault, use the opening by the boxes.

Bring the bonds back to the Registrar to make the Thieves' Guild official. Finally, go back to Darren and he will thank you for all your help. He will reward you with 30,000 Thieving XP along with 4,000 Herblore XP. Quest complete!
