Times have always been dark for the Myreque, but news is circulating that could plunge them into utter blackness. Vanstrom has been put in charge of wiping out the Myreque, and he has already been making himself busy: supply lines have ben cut, villagers killed, and Vanstrom himself has been seen on the outskirts of Burgh de Rott.
While the Myreque are resolute, they are not strong, and they need your help once again. Investigate Vanstrom's presence near Burgh de Rott and send a message to the vampyres that humans will not simply accept slavery without a fight.
Part 1:
A Dark Cloud On The Horizon
Step 1
Talk to Veliaf
Search the entrance south of the bank
Take the charged medallion and letter back to Veliaf.
Start this Quest by speaking to Veliaf Hurtz who can be found under the pub in Burgh de Rott. Once there, you will be told that Cornelius ran to Veliaf Hurtz for help after he heard someone digging the soil just south of his bank. The figure found an entrance to an underground chamber, but fled upon discovery.
After speaking to Veliaf, travel just south of the bank to the cave. Upon arrival, enter the cave and search the coffin to the west. You will be hit for ten lifepoints damage, but also find a medallion lying in the dust. Pick it up and charge it at the blood pool, and make your way to the caves entrance, where you will find a letter to Safalaan Hallow on the ground. Pick it up and take your amulet and letter back to Veliaf.
Part 2:
A New Quest
Step 1
Talk to Veliaf
Talk to Safalaan
Accept your quest to find Vanstrom
Upon returning to Veliaf, talk to him and you will show him the letter and the amulet. Veliaf will say that they must have been planted there, and tells you to talk to Safalaan in the Meiyerditch Myreques headquarters. He will offer to teleport to there, and upon accepting, you will find yourself in the Myreque base. Head north and speak to Safalaan.
Tell Safalaan about the letter, he will take it from you and read it. Safalaan will also take the medallion and changes one of the teleport options to bring you back into the Meiyerditch headquarters. Proceed to ask Safalaan what we should do and he will mention having to go and seek out Vanstrom, as he knows something. You convince Safalaan that it would be a bad idea, as it may be a trap, so he asks you to go instead. Accept his request, and you will be on your way.
Part 3:
Finding Help
Step 1
Talk to Safalaan
Follow the directions to the Myreque hideout
Talk to Vertida.
Talk to Mekritus
Upon accepting, Safalaan will tell you to go to a look-out spot east of the Myreque base to meet up with Vertida and Mekritus, to make sure It's safe. He then proceeds to add directions into your quest journal.
- Head out of the base and go into the next building just north of you, up the stairs, across into the next building.
- Climb down and then go west from there until you reach the barricade.
- Then go south and head to the upstairs of the building with the fireplace and portrait.
- Jump the wall to get to the building next door, and go back to the ground floor.
- If you leave this building to the west, the meeting point will be to your west.
- You'll need to make your way round to the building to the north to make sure the coast is clear.
When you arrive at the meeting point, Vertida is on the ground level. Mekritus is upstairs, he tells you, and you can climb up the wall near him and he will keep watch. There is a wall is to the left of him with a picture of a silver sickle on it. Just above the painting, there is a climb option. Mekritus tells you the building you're in overlooks Vanstrom's meeting place, and that you can look out of the window here to check if the coast is clear. Mekritus and Vertida will flank around to provide cover.
Part 4:
An Unlikely Ally
Step 1
Use the lookout point
Talk to Nessie
Return to Safalaan
One square to the south is the look-out point. Click on the silver sickle image to look out. You will then enter a cut scene of your player looking out as Mekritus and Vertida get ready to fight. A girl then comes crying. The cut scene ends with you saying you should get down there and help out.
To climb back down click 'Drop down floorboards' and head out of the door to the west, and then through the south door. Talk to Nessie (level 424). She tells you she is lost and a scary vampire told her to stay here. You question her about Vanstrom and she transforms into Vanescula Drakan (Level 424). When you try to attack her she will throw you back. Click attack again and she tells you to calm down, and that she isn't here to fight.
Ask her what she is doing here, and she will tell you that she is here to offer you her help. She admits to planting the letter, so ask her how she knows so much about Safalaan. She tells you she has taken an interest in him, but that's all she will tell you. Ask how she can help and she will tell you she knows about your plan to destroy Drakan, and she once again offers her help. She says that Drakan is no longer a worthy leader. Go through all of the chat options and finally you will be told about a tree that is deadly to vampires, and that you will need to chop some logs from it to make a weapon more powerful than the ivandis flail.
The tree is known as the blisterwood tree and can only be found in Darkmeyer, the vampyre town. Go through all the chat options again until she gives you an envelope. Take the letter to Safalaan. Rather than running back through the maze, use the medallion that Salafaan enchanted earlier in the quest, using the teleport labeled "Meiyerditch".
Part 5:
Infiltration
Step 1
Talk to Safalaan
Gather the needed items
Follow the instructions in your quest journal
Talk to Vanescula Drakan
Once Safalaan has read the letter, he advises you to go to Darkmeyer and see this tree, but he doesn't have any time to give you advice as he needs to read the letter. He prompts you to speak to Vertida, as he can help. Upon speaking to Vertida you can ask him what you need to take. He advises; some smoke bombs obtained from a crate near the entrance (just west of the ladder) as they will help you to stay hidden, a hatchet to chop the logs from the trees and to look out for seeds so they can grow trees of their own.
Once you have all the items, you get given more instructions from your quest journal.
- Head out of the base and up the stairs, across into the next building.
- Climb down the ladder and leave this building and run through the building directly to the north.
- Turn right then run north
- Once past the fish shop, turn left
- Run north
Once you have followed those directions you will appear at a little puddle of water under the wall. Click to squeeze through the gate. As soon as you're in, you will spot Vanescula Drakan. Ask about the tree and she tells you it is well guarded, and as such you need to use your smoke bombs and disguise yourself with clothes.
This is where you put your Smoke bombs to use, the smoke bombs will cover you running past the juvinates, but not the Vyrewatch. To counter the Vyrewatch you need to search the chests in the town until you have a full set of Vyrewatch gear, using your thread and needle (received from Vanescula) on it to convert it into Darkmeyer clothing.
Once you have all the clothing, go back to Vanescula. She will put a her blood mark on you which disguises your human scent. Now you must talk with vampires to be recognised as a member.
Part 6:
Getting Recognized
Step 1
Talk to various vampyres and do what they ask of you
You must now complete the tasks that some of the vampyres have for you in order to gain status. The first is Sanguinus Varnis (Picture), who asks you to vandalize posters, who can be located just east of the stairs on the middle tier. There are four to find and vandalize around the middle tier (Picture).
Grigan Kaninus has lost some bloodveld younglings that you must locate and can be found west of the stairs on the middle tier (Picture). They are in the middle tier, but do note that some may have wandered into the lower tier. There are six to find, and this may take a good while, so be prepared.
Valentina Kaust can be found in a house just north west of Grigan Kaninus (Picture). She gives you a bottle of blood. Drink it to gain 23 status, but be warned you lose half of your lifepoints upon doing so.
You can also go far north east to the jail and be mean to the prisoner, Maria Gadderanks (Picture). If you keep choosing the mean options you will gain some status. You should now have enough status go to the upper tier.
Now repeat the process in the upper tier. Talk to the vamypres and do their tasks until you can enter the Arboretum. Misdrievus Vakan wants to be entertained, and is located just south of the stairs on the upper tier (Picture). He will demand that you humiliate the blood tither. Talk to him and you get the option to punch him, select yes and you gain twelve status. Talk to Misdrievus again, and he tells you to watch what happens when the blood tither goes to the tithe master, who is in the building west of Misdrievus Vakan (Picture), without his sample. During the cutscene, say it wasn't you, and then that he should die to gain a further 24 status.
Sentinel Bloodmortis is located just north of the jail (Picture) and will say how you shouldn't trust anyone in the higher tier, and then goes on to talk about a vampyre. Say the vampyre should be killed to gain ten more status.
Next, talk with Vanescula Drakan, who is located just south of the tithe master building, and she will tell you and she will say that you need to pledge yourself to the Drakan family. Just follow the chat, and once you are done you will receive four status.
Finally, head far south and speak to the Vyrewatch guard. He asks if you want some fun, by killing the people in the cage. Agree to it. For each one you kill you gain two status.
Part 7:
A Puzzling Tree
Step 1
Enter the Arboretum
Solve the puzzles
Chop the tree
Now you should head over and speak to the Arboretum guard, but before you can do so, Ranis will interrupt you and ask if you think his sister is more important than he is. Say no, and he will demand that you pledge to him too. Do so and gain 4 more status. You can now enter the Arboretum.
Once you're inside, check the health of the Blisterwood tree. You will then need to release Drakans energy and present it to the tree. Pull the nearby lever and you'll see some circles. You need to make the first row blue (water) the second row orange (light) and the third row green (nutrition). The only way to move the circles is in groups of 2 or 4 depending on where you click and you have to click the bottom left hand corner of the circles to move them. It should look like this when completed (Picture).
Now on to puzzle two. It is very much he same as the first one but the order is, green, blue, orange, green. When finished, it should look like this: (Picture).
Puzzle three is the same as the other two but significantly more challenging. No blue may touch another blue and no green may touch another green. Blue and green may touch however, and orange may touch anything. It should look like this when complete: (Picture).
In puzzle four, no orange may touch a blue. Orange may, however touch another orange, blue may touch another blue, and green may touch anything. It may look like this when complete, although there are other possibilities: (Picture).
Once you have completed all four puzzles you can cut the tree for some logs.
Part 8:
A Deadly Warning
Step 1
Warn the Myreque
Kill Harold
Once you have chopped three logs from the Blisterwood tree, exit the Arboretum and a cut scene will occur. Ranis is waiting outside to kill you, when Vanescula arrives. They talk for a brief moment and the cut scene ends. When you go outside, Ranis is dead.
Speak with Vanescula. She will tell you that you won't find any seeds and that she doesn't know how the tree grows, but most importantly, she warns you Vanstrom knows the whereabouts of the Myreque hideout. Vanescula then asks for your medallion and puts two teleport options on to it; Barrows and Darkmeyer. After a bit more chatting, she teleports you out of Darkmeyer and back into Meiyerditch.
Hurry back to the hideout and warn the others, fastest way to get there being to use your medallion. Once you're there, speak with Vertida and he will tell you Safalaan has vanished. You will now enter a cut scene on which you will agree to kill Vanstrom. Once the cut scene has finished, speak with Vertida. He will tell you that you can make weapons from the blisterwood logs and offers you a knife. Accept the knife as you will need it in a few moments. He will also give you a bottle of holy water and advise you get two silver sickles from Kael. Once you have the two silver sickles from Kael, fletch the blisterwood polearm, blisterwood staff and blisterwood stake. Note that if you do not make all three, you cannot enter Vanstrom's house.
When you're ready, head over to Vanstroms house, located in the upper tier, south of the bank, making sure that you have plenty of food and potions. Before you can get to Vanstrom, you need to defeat his pet bloodveld, Harold. Turn protect from melee on and pour the holy water on him to weaken him, now kill him with your blisterwood polearm.
Part 9:
The Final Battle
Step 1
Kill Vanstrom
Collect your reward
This is the final battle. Be prepared, as it is a challenging one! A good inventory includes Saradomin brews and Super restores, as well as overloads, extreme potions, or any other potion you can use in order to ease the fight. Energy pots are also recommended, as you will be doing a lot of running during the fight. A sample inventory can be seen to the right. Note that the holy water and the polearm are necessary, unless you are ranging, in which case bring your blisterwood stakes. Remember that you must wear vyrewatch until the boss fight begins.
Vanstrom has a number of deadly attacks, as are listed below.
- His basic attack, which is a small ball of fire that does not pose much threat.
- Vanstrom also summons two bloodvelds on opposite sides of the room. These must be killed before they reach him or Vanstrom will heal, but each bloodveld has 50 lifepoints and should be an easy kill.
- His next attack is incredibly dangerous for the ill prepared. Vanstrom will say something along the lines of "Stare into the darkness." You and your familiar must immediately face away from Vanstrom, or he will hit you for a large amount of damage.
- Another dangerous attack, Vanstrom will fly into the air, and blood will appear on the ground. Simply run around the room in a square to avoid the puddles. It is also recommended to attack him when you can, as he is very weak in the air, and if not damaged he will not come down for a long time.
- Finally, once you have his health low enough, Vanstrom will transform into a cloud of what looks like smoke, dealing rapid, damage to the player, with his attacks hitting no higher than 50. Do not underestimate these hits, however, as they are extremely fast. Simply click the holy water and a puddle will appear on the floor. Stay on the opposite side of it and Vanstrom will travel over it, receiving rapid damage. Do this 4-6 times and he will die.
Once you have killed Vanstrom, a cutscene will occur. Afterward, you take control of Vanescula in her transformed state and must kill the bloodvelds that have swarmed the room. Simply use the attacks given, and you will easily dispatch your foes. Once they are all dead, you will teleport back to base, and after a short talk, the quest will be complete!
