Items: Food and armour (If you have low combat stats) to defeat three level 2 mercenaries.Traverse the rooftops of the gloriously reworked Al Kharid to steal the mother of all diamonds, and confront the kidnapping villains. You may find, though, that the intrigue runs deeper than you or Ozan ever suspected...
Part 1:
"In over his head"
Step 1
Speak with Ozan.
Help infiltrate the Skulls.
Find out what Khnum is up to.
Ozan can be found amongst the northern-most houses of Draynor, and upon talking to him will reveal that he has heard of your exploits and would like some help uncovering what his old friend Khnum - a former palace guard in Al Kharid - is up to as part of a new gang in the area (the Skulls). Ozan will then reveal that Khnum is actually in the cellar of the building immediately to your west, and wants you to pose as a thug so you can get recruited and talk to Khnum directly.
Knock on the trapdoor inside and select the third option ("Let me in or I'll poke your eyes out") to be let in by the bouncer. Once you're in the cellar, speak to Khnum who is located behind the bar at the far end of it. He will give you a threatening speech about joining the Skulls, to which your answer should be a nod to show you understand. Khnum will now declare that you are to pass some initiation tests to prove you're worthy of the gang.
Note that there are actually no 'right' answers to any of the three questions asked, per se, though what you choose will ultimately determine the title given to your character at the end of the quest. However that can be changed afterwards easily enough if not desirable.
After you answer them Khnum will claim you have potential and induct you as a recruit for the Skulls. Should you choose to learn more about him Khnum reveals that he leads the gang, heavily distrusts Ozan now, and is overseeing a kidnapping that is currently in effect ("sticking it to the old employer"). Khnum will then ask you to meet at the Skull's HQ before supplying his men, and finding it is your final challenge.
Climb out of the cellar and speak with Ozan again. After talking about all of the options and informing him of what you learned inside, Ozan will suggest that the two of you should follow Khnum to the HQ when he surfaces as he doesn't know where it is either. Tailing him is rather simple, just move at a moderate pace and stay well behind Khnum at all times (paying attention to Ozan's prompts). After stopping at the bank Khnum will head over to the old abandoned jail east of the village, follow him here too and it will be revealed that is the gang's HQ.
Part 2:
Answers
Step 1
Reveal yourself to Khnum.
Interrogate him.
Prepare to call for aid from Al Kharid.
Ozan will suggest that the two of you now confront Khnum inside for answers as to what he's doing. Knhum's pleasure that you have found the location turns into anger as he spots Ozan beside you, and deduces you are working together when you refuse to kill him as ordered. Knhum will then explain why he has become a criminal - he was kicked out of the palace despite 20 years of loyal service for helping a curious Ozan inside, and further offended by the fact Ozan never contacted him again afterwards.
If you for whatever reason get separated from Ozan heron, he will be found in this jail.
Now Leela will appear and demand Khnum's surrender, mistaking you both for his henchmen. After she realises though that you're trying to stop the Skulls' kidnapping plot too, helps interrogate him. It turns out that Khnum has taken Prince Ali himself whilst on a tour of Lumbridge - but he refuses to give any more details, to which Ozan asks you to lead the questioning. Select the following options in order:
- "I'll lock you up and throw away the key."
- "We'll find them easily enough ourselves."
- "What will you take pride in while you're locked up?"
This will move the conversation to Knhum's main weakness - food and thus what he will eat in prison, thus making him accept your offer of better conditions in jail in exchange for information. Knhum reveals that the Skulls had in fact been hired to help a mysterious 'Lady Keli', whose plot this was in the first place, and she will be found south of here along Draynor's coast. When you get there you will find Keli about to board a boat with the prince at her mens' mercy, threatening to kill him if the three of you try to stop them. As her personal thugs take the prince into it, Keli orders the Skulls' mercenaries to kill you and take the ransom to Al Kharid. However they are only level 2 so there should be no problem defeating them.
After picking up the ransom note dropped by one, Leela will ask you and Ozan to take it to Osman - Al Kharid's Spymaster - who will be located in its palace. She will give a random pass-phrase to tell him to prove the seriousness of the situation (as the kidnappers are wearing the clothes of Menaphos), so make sure you record it.
Part 3:
The Kharid-ib
Step 1
Gain access to the palace.
Steal the Kharid-ib diamond.
Convince the Emir to hand it over.
Upon getting there, the two of you will argue with the dismissive entrance guard but he will refuse to let you through. Talk to Ozan after this and he will claim there is a way to break in via the surrounding rooftops instead - starting with Dommik's crafting store to the north-east of the city. Climb up to its top and from there:
- Walk across the plank.
- Slide down the awning.
- Head inside then walk across the washing line.
- Climb up the ladder.
- Cross the planks.
- Climb up the ladder.
- Jump from the scaffold.
- Climb down the rug and swing across the wooden frame.
- Jump from the scaffold.
- Bounce on the awning.
- Climb up the brickwork.
- "Leave it to Ozan" on the flagpole
- Climb up the brickwork.
Now a cutscene plays featuring Osman, Grand Vizier Hassan, and the Emir Shah who are talking to Jabari - the Menaphite ambassador. With the Emir's ailing health and the prince missing, it is revealed that Menaphos wants to take over Al Kharid should it eventually be left leaderless. However the proposal is rejected, and when Jabari has left, the Emir will tell Osman that he is close to death and that Ali must be found at any cost to avoid another war (though short of surrendering the Kharid-ib diamond if that's what any ransom demands).
However Ozan realises that this is exactly what Keli's note is referring to, and suggests that you both steal it as the prince's life is more important. Climb up the brickwork to the right of the rope, and then break-in through the skylight to the south. Open one of the ornate chests once inside to find a scroll on the history of the Kharid-ib. Reading it will reveal the logic behind the upcoming puzzle.
Please note if you log-off within the treasure room, you will taken outside the palace when you next log-in. Simply talk to Ozan again to be taken back into the treasure room.
Now inspect the Het scales which will provide you with basic instructions. The aim is to determine which of nine weights is heavier than the others, due to the fact it is the one that contains the diamond (as all the others are identical), with just two uses of the scales.
- Place 6 random weights on the scale.
- If one side is heavier than the other, you know that one of the three on that side is the heavy one.
- If both sides weigh the same, then you know that the heavy weight is one of the three you did not choose.
- Now that you have it narrowed down to 3 weights, put one of those 3 on the left side, another on the right and the third one aside.
- If the two chosen weights are the same, then you know that the third one is the heavy one.
- Once you find the heavy weight, drag the weight to the bag to take it into your inventory.
After using the correct one on the plinth, and obtaining the diamond, Osman and his guards will storm the vault to arrest you both for trying to steal it. However he calls his men off and demands an explanation when you protest that it is to save the prince's life. Osman is sceptical at first - but starts to relent after you relay Leela's pass-phrase, and takes you both to the Emir.
Even after explaining everything to him - Shah refuses to change his mind and orders the Kharid-ib be safely stored away again. This infuriates Ozan, with the player free to choose between either helping pressure the Emir or calming him down, and after making it clear he will never change his mind on the matter - the Emir succumbs to a heart attack and dies. Hassan ominously rues the prospect of a Menaphos attack if Ali isn't found before leaving to prepare Shah's last rites.
Osman ultimately holds neither of you accountable for this, and thanks you for those much-needed words of advice. As a favour the attempted theft is ignored, Ozan's banishment is forgiven, and as the man charged with formulating a new plan of rescue for the prince - Osman says he might have need for the two of you in the future. Congratulations! The quest is complete!
