Part 1:
New mission

Step 1
Speak with Osman.
Find Ozan and tell him of Osman's plan.
Head to the desert via Shantay pass.

Continuing immediately on from 'Stolen Hearts' storyline, Osman will tell you that he is worried about the ransom note's contents - and wants to show you and Ozan something inside the vault. He will be found loitering at the palace's steps north. After telling Ozan that Osman has pardoned him and is welcome back as a citizen again, a cutscene will ensue where Osman will analyse the note's message and inform you both about a new plan to rescue Ali.

After Osman implies he will turn a blind eye to the two of you defying the Emir's last wishes and using the diamond hidden inside the heavy weight to rescue Ali - take it from the Het scales (by clicking 'inspect'), climb up the rope onto the roof, and if possible Lodestone teleport back to Al Kharid itself below in order to avoid clambering across the rooftops again. At this point head south to Shantay Pass and talk to Shantay himself. After an unusual conversation Shantay will allow you into the desert and give you four full waterskins too. Another cutscene will then activate upon entering it where the two of you discuss the possibility of Shantay having been briefly possessed.

Part 2:
Into the desert

Step 1
Track the sundials of the desert gods.
Kill the bandits.
Find a way out of the underground cavern.

Once in the desert you will have the chance to ask Ozan some questions during which he will reveal that he plans to steal the Kharid-ib back from Keli after securing the prince to return triumphantly home with both. Select the 'let's keep going' option, and the two of you will decide to open the weight to free the diamond. Upon doing so though - it emits a high-pitched screeching sound that causes a sundial base to erupt out of the ground beside you. Inspect it and click on the orange icon to the outside of the human face (Het symbol) to align the gnomon to it. The beam of light the dial now emits will show the two of you the path forwards.

You will then reach the sundial of Apmeken, where a group of bandits will attack. Their king will talk just like Shantay - and Ozan deduces that the Kharid-ib is actually trying to communicate to the two of you through surrounding human hosts. It claims that unless you take it "back" you will die - after which the bandits will attack. Pick up the gnomon dropped by the last one, reattach it to the main pedestal, and this time point it to the monkey face to find the next one.

Upon heading to its location the two of you will discover that the sundial is buried, and in the process of trying to recover its gnomon too - quicksand will activate. No matter which of the options you choose to try and escape you'll still sink down and fall into an underground cavern. The Kharid-ib and falls out of your backpack and gets taken away by an infant kalphite. As Ozan rests his 'injured' leg, inspect the sundial of Crondis and search the tunnels to find its missing gnomon - though Ozan will quickly realise he's sitting on it. Inspect the fixed sundial, select the crocodile head, and enter the highlighted tunnel.

Part 3:
Old friends

Step 1
Recover the Kharid-ib from the kalphite infants.
Continue following the sundials.
Defeat Amascut's henchmen and rescue the prince.

The two of you will eventually reach a Kalphite Nursery where one of the infants is rolling the diamond into a ball, so you must slice them open to recover it. If you have not brought a slash-oriented weapon then simply pick up the Bronze scimitar by the chamber's entrance. The correct kalphites can be deduced by the noise the diamond makes, its sparkling nature, and Ozan's own calls (so it helps to have sound effects, ambient sounds, and voice-over options all on). You will work up from lesser gems (sapphire to ruby) before finding the Kharid-ib itself. After doing so the two of you will hear the fourth sundial rise.

At this point Leela will arrive and lower a rope so you can climb out through the ceiling's opening. Inspect the sundial of Scabaras to start a dialogue sequence where Leela is brought up to speed with what's happened so far, and point the gnomon towards the beetle icon. Follow its beam of light to the ruins of the Temple of Amascut, where Keli and her henchmen are waiting with the prince. Talk to her to activate a cutscene in which the exchange is about to be made (regardless of which option you choose) before the diamond speaks through Apep and Heru - begging not to be handed over as Keli will kill you all. Ultimately the pleading is futile as Keli gets it anyway, and reveals herself to be none other than the goddess Amascut. She then whips up a sandstorm and and commands Apep and Heru to kill the three of you. Note that when Apep proclaims "whirling dervish!" he will summon a mini-tornado to temporarily stun and knock you back if you don't get out of the way in time. His other attack, where he blinds you with his shield, cannot be blocked - but causes no real inconvenience. Damage dealt on both of them is capped at 50.

After finally defeating them free Prince Ali, who will be told of his father Shah's death by Ozan and Leela - at which point Ozan will declare that he is leaving immediately to recover the Kharid-ib. You will then be brought back to the palace in front of Osman with Leela whilst Ali is in the process of succeeding Shah as Emir. Osman claims that the diamond's loss is Ozan's fault alone, as it was his choice to ultimately take it in order to save the prince with, to which Leela shows her disgust and announces she is done with service to the spy network to concentrate stopping Amascut and Menaphos. Now another cutscene will activate wherein the goddess is talking to ambassador Jabari, who reveals that he actually poisoned the Emir. It then turns out that the beetle-god Scabaras influenced the kalphite infants to hide the diamond on purpose so Amascut would never get it, an act which she promises to get revenge for. After this one ends - congratulations! The quest is complete!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are there any hidden rewards?

A: Yes. Here is how to access them:

  • At the back of the Monkey Colony there is a fissure on the cliffside that you can climb by clicking (provided you have 80 Agility). Doing so will yield 20,000 Agility xp (though this can be increased through the effects of, for example, a Clan Avatar with the 'skilling bonus' buff active).
  • Slay the kalphite infants to find Apep's axe (Uraeus) and Heru's shield (Aten).
  • Exploring the Nursery further by going through a tunnel at the east of the chamber, and then into the next one, to rediscover the cavern beneath the quicksand pit. By mining the fissure there you will gain 20,000 Mining xp (again - with a requirement of level 80, though this can be boosted to) as well as being able to climb down and find the sceptre Was (an Icthlarin artefact) and a Scabaras mask.
