Item: 500GP, Games Necklace, Energy Enhancing Items (Energy Potions, Boots of Lightness, etc).
Part 1:
Freeing the Guards
Step 1
Speak to Denulth.
See Eohric.
Try talking to Harold.
Speak with Eohric again.
Speak to Denulth, located south of the castle (Picture). He will inform you that his soldiers need a way up the Death Plateau. Head upstairs in the castle and speak to Eohric. He will then tell you about Harold, one of the guards.
Find Harold upstairs in the bar and talk to him. Unfortunately, he's not interested in speaking to you, so return to see Eohric, who will tell you that Harold likes Asgarnian Ale and Gambling.
Step 2
Give Harold his drinks.
Gamble with Harold.
Obtain the IOU.
Free the guards.
Items needed: Asgarnian Ale, Blurberry Special, 100-500GP.
An Asgarnian Ale can be bought in Falador Bar for 3GP. It also spawns in the Burthorpe Bar, for free
Return to Harold and give him his ale (Picture). If he requests a Blurberry Special as well, give him one. Those can be bought from the Gnome Stronghold or the Grand Exchange. You may need to give him multiple drinks in order to get him drunk enough to lose every time. Gamble with Harold using the dice on the screen (Picture). If you win with a high enough bet, he will not be able to afford to pay you back and will give you an IOU (Picture).
Read the combo (Picture) to find the door combination. Return to the castle and place the Coloured Balls in their correct places on the table (Combination). Once you unlock the door, go up the tower and speak to one of the archers in the tower and he will thank you for freeing them.
Part 2:
Finding another way
Step 3
Find Saba.
Find the Sherpa.
Help Tenzing.
Head towards the cave just north-west of the castle to find Saba. Talk to him (Picture). He says that the old Sherpa, Tenzing, in the mountains knows the secret passage to the Death Plateau.
Exit his cave and head west. When you come to the injured soldier, head into the trail to the west of him. Do NOT go north - if you head north to the plateau trolls will throw rocks at you hitting 30-60 damage each.
At the end of the trail is Tenzing's house (Picture). Talk to him, and he will tell you that he wants 10 Trout, 10 Bread, and his Climbing boots fixed before he helps you (Picture).
Step 4
Get the climbing boots.
Give Tenzing his food.
Return to Denulth.
Items needed: 10 Trout, 10 Bread, 1 Iron bar.
Trout can be purchased from the Warriors' Guild for 68GP each.
Find Dunstan, the smith, located in the north-east part of Burthorpe. He will ask for a favour before he helps you - his son wants to get into the army but needs Denulth's approval. Speak to Denulth and he will give you a certificate (Picture). Return to the smith and give it to him along with an iron bar, and he will then make your climbing boots (Picture).
Return to Tenzing and give him the trout, bread, and climbing boots. He will give you a "secret way map" (Picture). Return to Denulth, and he will reward you for your help. Note that you cannot finish the quest without giving Denulth the combination. If you lost the combination you can go back to Harold and ask for another IOU.
