Part 1:
Scouting Death Plateau
Step 1
Speak to Denulth
Speak to Sabbot
Speak to Commander Denulth, located north of the Heroes' Guild. He will ask you to go and scout Death plateau for an alternate route. Your first point of contact will be Sabbot the dwarf who is found in a cave a little north west of Burthorpe behind the Troll Invasion area.
Speak to Sabbot. He will initially say it's not his problem so tell him you will not move until he helps and then select "Fine!" from the 2nd set of response options. After this he should agree to help you.

An Alternate route

Speak to Freda
Speak to Dunstan
Return boots to Freda
Sabbot believes there could be an underground route to the plateau and suggests you speak to his wife Freda to get a copy of the geological survey he and his wife were working on when the trolls attacked. Exit his cave and head west. When you come to the injured soldier, head into the trail to the west of him and follow it south to Freda's hut (Picture).
Speak to Freda who will agree to give you her copy of the survey if you run an errand for her which is to deliver her boots to Dunstan for repairs. Dunstan can be found east of Burthorpe castle outside his sword shop (Picture) so head over there and ask him to put fresh spikes on the boots and after they have been repaired go back to Freda to receive the survey.

Speak to Sabbot
Mine Wall
Explore Cave
Kill "The Map"
Return to Denulth
Return to Sabbot's cave and show him the survey. He will show you where to mine the wall to open up the passageway. Now you will need to explore the cave and see if it leads to Death Plateau, so enter the cave entrance and follow path east and then south completing all the agility obstacles on the way.
At the end of the cave will be an exit that leads to Death Plateau, after exiting the cave a cutscene will ensue after which a level 5 troll named "The Map" will appear. Kill him and return to Commander Denulth. A final cutscene will occur after which the quest will be complete.
